<div class="IPBDescription">suggestions for the hud/scoreboard/console/"bindings" etc.</div>Hi Guys

i tried doing the "press f1 to make suggestion" thing inside the game, but that was breaking for me and i couldnt do that :( so thought that i would make a thread here. Mod please move if this is in the wrong section/irrelevant/anything else, and i appologize in advance for anything that i have done wrong.

- hud/scoreboard
** in the scoreboard, with the "ping meter", please make option to change that to a number, or change it completely, oppose to the generic "red-orange-green" picture.

- bindings
** please differentiate(sp?) between mouse-wheel-down and mouse-wheel-up, oppose to mwheelX or whatever it currently is
** sensitivity - please add something so its a number, oppose to a bar you drag across. makes it hard going from pc to pc to get the same sensitivity, or finely tweaking in general

- console
** ability to edit bindings directly from there - most definately positively can do this already no doubt, maybe doco somewhere for it (most definately positivily that also :P)

- options in general
** display settings - enable "advanced settings" for graphics, oppose to 4 blanket settings (no doubt in progress)

- mouse
** i cant quite tell because i have rather poor performance (10fps w/ 850ms mouse lag), but it feels as if mouse acceleration is forced on? If so, please enable option to disable mouse accel.

thats about all i can remember for the meantime. Thanks guys.

Don't worry. This is the perfect spot to make a thread to discuss new ideas.

As it turns out, almost all of your points are being worked on. We know for a fact that the ping will be colored numbers in the next release instead of just the bars. Many, many people have bemoaned the mousewheel problem and sensitivity being a number. Personally I don't see the point of the numbers since it's an arbitrary number than changes from engine to engine, but I digress.

As for the other stuff, I can totally get behind them. Except maybe the scriptable console bindings, but meh. Someone inevitably will mod it in....

The mouse sensitivity number wouldn't really mean anything from system to system. Mouse sensitivity is dependent on the mouse itself, screen resolution/dpi, and a OS settings and mouse driver settings. For instance, on my system I usually play with the in game settings at about 80%, on my brothers computer I use 20%.

Well, typically on the same engine, on the same system, you're OK. I use the exact same settings for my mouse on all Source games.

However, different engines interpret the dpi/resolution values differently. Similarly, moving between systems means different mouses, resolution, etc. so pure numbers become useless. However, games also sometimes are useless. I recall pumping my sensitivity through the roof for Dead Space, really low for Source, ands somewhere in the middle for CoD. All to get the same approximate feel.

Engines really should start with a configuring part where it force the response to a certain level, and you drag the mouse around as much as you would want for that certain response. During the draging it displays the number the current sensitivy would be, so when you like it, you just exit test phase and enter that number.

I still like numbers due to accuracy for the settings, but the test I suggested really would make it easyer for people to decide "around" what number they would want it.
