PX9 is a Natural Selection 2 mod that like to bing RPG in to the ready FPS/RTS-hybird NS as to offer.
Why RPG?, we have combat in NS1 for that
Why not, but its not going to be like combat. Combat dont have a commander. So in way we are mixing them to gether.
Here is the idea and take note that the ideas will change in the future when NS2 is getting close to relase and we get out SDK tools needed.
Yah, the idea.. so here is what its all about.
* Solider leveling - earn point by doing objectives and level up to unlock new weapons
* Weapons Leveling - earn kills to unlock attachments for the weapons or upgrades.
* More support from commander to keep the team alive. But possible to win even with out a commander.
Winning team will resive XP bonus to there Solider.
At the moment I dont have ideas for objectives, but I hope in time I'll come up with something or someone els suggest something. well see.
Now you mite or not as why two diffrent leveling?
Well easy, to keep the player focus on the objectives and while doing that you're going to kill your enemy in witch will be XP for the weapon you are useing.
I been even on the line of "stats" like in a MMO game where the player can change the soilder as they are playing the game. But somehow it dont feel like its going to happen.
Even second gess it as it mite be a litte to mutch.
So thats what i have so far for now.
When time goes and the close we are getting to retail of Natural Selection 2 the faster we can get the mod done.

Are you sure the engine is finished enough for a mod? hope you are ;).

I never said it was a remade version of CoD in ns2. Nor will i do that..
Tell me do CoD have a commander?? no. thats more like Battlefield. (btw BF had locks before cod)
You know that there are game that uses unlocks and upgrates, then CoD/BF.
I want this mod to be objective forced, hens the leveling of your solider and while taking down your opponent you leve up your weapon.
Commander will have a more supporting roll then building. yet what the commander will do i dont know yet untill later. But the main focus is the solider for now.
Actually after re-reading your post, are you actually suggesting persistence, so BF2-like rather than COD-like? Honestly I'd prefer to see a COD-like variation, otherwise a new player to a long-running server will just end up going @_@ at all the level 300s with pew pew laser beams and freeze grenades and crap.
Also, a suggestion: have the commander gain points when the team's soldiers gain experience - and it can spend these points towards upgrades (that are non-personal, e.g. armour 1-3, weapons 1-3), abilities (scan, motion tracking, or whatever), and maybe defenses (sentries, maybe MASCs). Then you can have the soldiers specialise with their equipment when they level up, so they'd unlock guns and upgrades and stuff personal to them.
