Free computer gaming convention held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas this weekend, from Aug 12-15. Bring your computer for the massive LAN (last year there were around 6k people at the BYOC) or just come and have a good time.
Is anyone planning on going to this? I went last year and had a blast (though it's local for me so travel wasn't an issue)

I miss any sort of LANs.
Now if only I had an iPhone.

that is crazy impressive.
Wish I could go to quakecon, its way too far. Maybe I'll take a week vacation one year and go take a bike ride down to Texas to check it out.
Note that there's probably no dynamic lighting (nothing casts moving shadows except the static characters), no free-moving AI characters (the people are basically high-detail animated props with no behavioural logic), a single animation or two (correction: maybe 4 or 5), no gunplay, no particle effects or sprites, no physics (with perhaps the exception of gravity, but it may even be an on-rails demo - effectively a moving camera*) and maybe a single transparency but that's not clear; not to mention very short draw distances and no 1st-person assets.
* 1) The path is completely linear and he never moves backwards 2) He appears to move through a crate at the start; perhaps indicating there is no collision mesh for the entire map 3) The turns look very smooth 4) The 'Can I have the screen so I can drive?' comment may be designed to infer he has full 3D or even 2D control of his 'character'
It's impressive, and it shows the engine is very scalable, but there's a lot more that would need to be crammed in before they had a working game that ran at 60FPS, or even 30.
Yes, but dude, it's a tech demo on an iphone. It would be more than awesome if they could get a game out of that.
I heard they also had Bethesda guys there this year talking about the new stuff they want to do, but once again, I can only find text transcripts and paraphrasing, no video.
