And of course if I had to be nitpicky, you played as the Wehrmacht in that one, most of which weren't members of the nazi party.

Yeah, pretty much. Even Company of Heroes has only one one unit that is actually a true Nazi, the officer and probably the Königstiger crew/commander (not sure about them though)
The rest are just "der Wehrmacht, der Luftwaffe". But Thompson would probably call them all Nazi's <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/biggrin.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
On a side note, what is the German navy actually called? Just Deutsche marine or something, not a cool name like the others?
But I dont get it, why would it be so disgusting to play as a taliban or a nazi? It would be way worse if we had to play as part of the army which has a real war on a fictional enemy, hence attacking countrys for their oil, saying they are terrorists. Oh wait we do in many games, and noone complain about that :O.
BF2 was modern.
Why Thompson isn't battling against this clear promotion of dangerous, hallucinogenic drugs is beyond me.
Well it's heavy enough (if all other things are attached to it)
That was an awesome console, alas victim of extreme piracy...

No idea why I posted this, but I felt it was a good counter to the utility called megadrive/genisis(1/2)-32X-SegaCD combo :P
The down side being that the DC has far less bludeoning potential than a full Tower o' Power.
Here we have it <a href="http://www.gamespy.com/articles/112/1121508p1.html" target="_blank">straight from the horse's mouth.</a>
I must say, I'm surprised. Sure, I can find stuff I disagree with in there (like his fears about de evil gub'nment), but I can find much more that sounds eerily sensible. Certainly an eye-opener.

definitely an interesting interview. Of course, maybe he's just singing a slightly different tune since he knows the interview is for the gaming community, and since he has no legal power anymore, so he can't get by on fiery rhetoric like he used to...
That doesn't quite gel with other things he's done in the past, nor with his rhetoric ("murder simulator"? If that's what he actually believes, should they be sold to *anyone*?), so I really don't know how seriously to take that article.
As a side note, in the UK games are (currently, at least, I think they're being switched over to PEGI only) rated by the BBFC, and BBFC ratings *are* enforceable in the stores (retailers shouldn't sell an 18 game/movie to someone under 18), and it's never really caused an issue. It's kinda odd that it's such an apparently controversial thing in the US.
(After typing that out I'm not 100% sure any more that age ratings are legally enforced in the UK or if it's just a voluntary policy that everywhere abides by, or if it even exists at all. I'm fairly sure it exists...)
For the US it's the entire free speech thing. The only thing that we bar from minors is porn (because we have a serious hang up over sex), and even there I have issues with it. Our government doesn't have the right to censorship, it's why public libraries can't ban books. It's why the MPAA and ESRB's ratings are industry guidelines, not laws. It's why the Comic Book Code existed.
Why we care is because we (as a nation) put a lot of faith in our constitution and it's amendments.
As for Whacko Jacko:
Yah, he's an interesting person. He is far from stupid. He was active in the civil rights movement. Etc etc etc.
However, his views and methodology for limiting the sale of games to minors was counterproductive. In this interview he emphasizes industry regulation (something I support), however his acts previously were all focused around banning the sale of games to minors (via proposed laws), suing video game companies in fairly frivolous ways, and being a talking head spouting drivel whenever a minor did something violent (my favorite was probably watching him after the V-Tech killings, instantly jumping on it as a way to push his agenda, only for everything he said to prove to be 100% BS).
He has some lines that I call BS on. He tries to make himself a victim of Take-Two in terms of his disbarment. The bar association wouldn't have disbarred him if there wasn't a good reason, and he supplied all those reasons himself. He also talks about how he has always wanted it to be industry regulated, but no one has ever actually seen that side of him, we have all seen the other side. He claims that 7 years ago it was common for big chain retailers to sell age rated games to minors (I know that all the big retailers had the same rules they have today, and that they did have a policy of carding minors back then).
Really, I suspect that being disbarred was a wake up call to him, and he might understand that his previous antics just didn't fly. We will see how he acts.

He pops a lot of shrooms, though.

You have to buy a new sarcasm meter there Crispy <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/wtf.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
But let's analyze Mario without sarcasm for a little bit shall we. He and his brother burn, freeze and throw tools at enemies to make them "go away". You can also push them into a burning lava pit/endless pit of doom (King Koopa hates them for this) . I'm sure being squashed by a fat plumber isn't all that good for your overall health, what with the breaking/squashing of all your bones/organs. Not to mention, he steals and uses shells to slam them into the rest to crush them. And of course not to forget Yoshi, who actually devours and digests enemies!
Their arch-rival isn't even that violent, he just destroys robots to free his forest buddies, yes Sonic has Mario beat for a game without violence!
Mario analyzed is pretty damn violent, it seems <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/tongue.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" /> Well that wasn't entirely without sarcasm, oh well...
