Hi there and good morning !

I ve just preordered NS2 and thx to the great Tutorial videos by NaturalSelection2PL, I tried myself with the editor which is included in the Launch Pad.
Works fine and since I havent done any mapping so far its fun trying everything out.
Only problem i have is when i exit the editor my laptop crashes and I get a blue screen (hope image is attached) !

Since I have not read anything about this problem here I guess Im the only one.... already reinstalled everything but it didnt help so if you have any suggestions how I can continue mapping thx for the help

Best Regards

i can't give you an answer as now days every system is different with variations in hardware and software but here is a link that has some useful in formation on how to see why you crashed.

    <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263</a>

Sometimes you have to really dig to find the problem but most of the time it's a software issue but it could be a hardware problem. I know that NS2 just about smoked my laptop's vid card so i only run it on my desktop now to be safe. Hope that link helps you out on checking your dump files to find the problem.

(when all else fails, re-seat your ram)

    1. Do you tried installing:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\redist\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe
    and
<a href="http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.10.0513-driver.html" target="_blank">http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.10.0513-driver.html</a> (Newer Version than the one in NS2 redist folder.)

    2. Are you running symantech antivirus?

    3. Can be realted to old drivers for your GPU/Mobo. Do you have the latest.

Thx so far but problem is still there.

@ Sn.Wolf im digging in deep!!! No problem but i still dont know what is producing this problem which brings me to ...

    SgtBarlow

    1) Did the setup didnt help so no problem with directx
    2) Yes antivir is running so no virus or anything like that (I hope) by the way all other programms and games just work fine
    3) Thats what I thought too but went to MSI Hompage and updated chipset and graphics card driver ... still same proplem as soon as I close the editor laptop shuts down and resets

Even with antivir off it still crashes. (Cinematic Editor is the same by the way)

however it just shuts the pc down if i have used those programs, so if I dont model anything I can exit the editor just fine, as soon as I work with it and want to close it the BAD_POOL_CALLER blue screen appears

So I`m guessing it has something to do with the software trying to save data, and my windows is blocking that.

Does anyone know if the editor is going to be patched anyday soon?? Or any other ideas that might help??

I have used use pcpitstop for years to check my system to comparable systems to check vid and processor performance.

The utility is free and you can run without creating an account, as with any other web-based benchmarking utility it requires active x controls to be installed but i never had any issue with this website.

    use at your own risk ---> <a href="http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp" target="_blank">http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp</a>

full test will run through a full test including video performance.

PS: they will try to sell you software to fix any issues but you can most likely find and fix anything for free from the information they give you if you don't mind a little time on google.

What is performance like when you're actually running the editor? How does it deal with more strenuous tasks like, say, several shadow-casting lights on a relatively high-poly scene?

Performance is normally ok ( 10-15 % on CPU) but sometimes the editor just freezes even when im just doing walls or so and thats it. I have to exit the Editor and BAD_POOLER_CALLER appears!
Its the only program I have problems with, even very demanding graphic games just work fine.
Here is part of my system I think it should be sufficent to work properly with the editor normally :

    CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 2,53 GHz
Graphics : ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
    Ram : 3070 MB

I run the editor on a AMD 2.4 dual core, 9500gt 1gb vid, and 3gb of ram and when i show allot of layers in the editor that push me down to 1 FPS and never had a crash so i would say your system should be okay with the editor. Can you launch and exit the game okay?

I did notice my builder setup doesn't work and even after reinstalling it still doesn't work (configuration not valid error) so i was assuming there where some hidden files the uninstall didn't clean out but i couldn't find anything.

It looks like they are pretty close to the next build so maybe we just wait a bit longer and hope your issue is repaired with it.

It could be the weak GPU throwing a tantrum. The Spark engine is extremely unkind to anything less than enthusiast-level GPUs at the moment, although I can't think of why the tantrum would occur on unload rather than during rendering.

What resolution are your rendered windows in the editor?
