Doubt it, but it isn't worth any developer time at this point.

Well obviously thinking about IPv6 is not a good idea, but I think it could work like a marketing trick. I have SIXXS IPv6 subnet and I think some people might be interested to play just because its in IPv6. Being the first FPS game to support it or something.

was asking caus they just said theres a deadline to switch to it 2012.

i know some isp's are gonna start switching to it

    Just a small hint:

IPv4 and IPv6 being located on the OSI Layer 3 there is ne need to specifically build support for IPv6.

Just make sure that you are using standard libraries for everything transport layer related and your game will be able to run off IPv6.

The jump from ipv4 to ipv6 cannot be compared to the ipx->ipv4 jump.

yes but being able to do
    connect fe80::21c:25ff:fe9b:b45b%5

    just as an example
    needs to be feasible
caus 1 year and 2 months is not very long
they should be thinking about this stuff now

i dont think waiting 6months to a year will work
i guess as long as they allow the syntax in network commands it hopefully will be fine

its quite easy for max to implement this... so let them work on serious stuff now!

    thx for the advice btw...

This is an informative article regarding the IPv4 to IPv6 transition.

It'd be simpler if they ensure game/UI elements can handle IPv6 addressing but don't actually care about them, and allow the O/S to concern itself with lower OSI functions. ISPs are genuinely looking now at it, because the current consumption rate gives us under 18 months until it becomes a necessity, but I'd hope (and presume, from the way the guys at UWE tend to write things) the applications are written to be scalable so they can handle the transition with a small patch at most when it becomes necessary.

ipv6 support for applications is a trivial issue, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

i guess it would be something like support hexadecimal numbers for values
and making sure a colon and a double colon does not mean a comment

im guessing something along those lines

    and thanks guys for response

hopefully this can be done sometime i would like to test out a ipv6 network with this game

Some people here say it would bring more people, if they implement IPv6 in this game. My question is why would people be interested in trying it? IPv6 will not change how the game is playing or something. Or am I mistaken? O.o

In the near future they'll have to convert but for now I don't think they should bother.
