An interface point (one type for drifters and one for macs) could be activated <u>only</u> by a builder. Doing this would fire a trigger which could perform an action (like unlock a room, activate a resource node, crush the alien hive, etc).
I guess weldpoints could have this kind of flag. But crushing hives? No, thanks. Way to inbalanced if it is less than 5 minutes activation time. And that is better spent sieging directly.
