How to increase alpha performance

post here
Anybody have any special ways to improve performance in the NS2 alpha? Are there things in the lua code that can be taken out to help? Console commands? etc

Here's mine:

- Run in lowest possible resolution. I run 1024x768 as anything lower seems to screw up the server list.
- Set detail level to 'ridiculously awful'.
- Run in a window
- Set NS2.exe to highest process priority.

- Server size should not exceed 8 players

Obviously the performance issues will be fixed in the coming weeks/months, but in the meantime some tips would be helpful.

    - Wait for patches.
    - Get very drunk and misread your FPS counter.
    - Let them patch the game.
    - Play NS1 and pretend it's NS2.
    - Hold out for patches.
    - Record your gameplay, speed it up in a video editor, and play it back while pretending to play.
    - Keep an eye out for patches to the game/engine.
    - Buy a better 3d card.
    - Sit tight and let Max make the engine run faster.
    - Overclock your CPU, GPU, RAM, frontside bus, your microwave, your friend's computer, your cat, and then your GPU again

Somehow I get the feeling that this thread was a failure in the eyes of others...

for added fun, add popcorn to your CPU after overclocking it to 5 ghz.

    You guys are terrible!

Keep an eye on number of processes that try to assassinate you cpu or gpu. Kill them before they kill your computer

it seems NS2 is ALMOST ENTIRELY bottlenecked by the CPU at this time.
if you have a decent GPU then low, med or high settings won't make much difference (maybe 10-20%)

the only way then is more CPU capacity, be it speed or a more powerful model.
otherwise, wait and see now with patch 154...

The game is goofing around on core 0, this is being sorted, it will slowly improve over time as the issue is rectified bit by bit, I dont think it will be totally sorted for 154 looking at whats to be done but will get marginly better, maybe in a couple of builds time it will be fully rectified.
