How do I tell which version I'm using?

Steam has been having some trouble with NS2 for me, and I wanted to make sure I had the latest version, or if I should keep fiddling with steam to get it to update properly.

Is there anywhere in NS2 that shows the version number of the build I'm running?

It would be really awesome if the build version would be displayed at the bottom of the main menu along with the rest .. ex:

    Version: ALPHA 153.## - 11/4/2010

If you open up the level editor and look at the Help -> About menu, it'll tell you.

P.S. And yes, it would be great if it was displayed on the main screen, or in the console on game load.

    +1

Or at least next to the "alpha build, press F1..." that displays when you're in a game.

Or a console command that shows the build number and/or build date.

the console already shows you the version number though, but a command or something in the menu... Could be nice...

I think they removed the build number in console with the latest patch. UWE, any chance of getting it back?

The game since build 152 also writes the build number to you options file %appdata%\Natural Selection 2\options.xml

Confirmed. Checked my user's ApplicationData folder and found:
    <b><build>153</build></b>
