Can we have more small maps like rockdown?

I feel like tram is ruining things for everyone. Whereas it often takes me upwards of a minute to connect to a server running tram (when I can connect at all), rockdown takes me 5-10 seconds (unless the server's about to crash) before I'm running around in the RR. I feel like it would behoove the team to temporarily pull tram and have the mapper(s) work on small maps like rockdown so that more people can play and less people will whine.

*edit* i only mean temporarily, until server performance issues and connection issues are fixed.

What you're asking would take A LOT of time to pull off. I would say several weeks. In all honesty, I think UWE is on the right track. Give them time, they aren't magicians and the bug fixes take a lot of effort.

Although, we don't really have to wait for more optimizations to have smaller maps. There isn't anything stopping us (the community) from doing something and the server admins then loading that map. Hell, this might really help out the guys that have been working on maps (play testing, etc).

just pull tram then. i'm sure the mappers have portions of maps in varying stages of finish. Can't they just clone a partially done level, chop it in half, add some nodes and be done? I'm not saying build new maps from the ground up necessarily.

If Tram is pulling down performance and stability, then it should be kept in, not removed, for further testing on new builds. Players can avoid the level if they wish.

NS Armory servers I believe are running rockdown now... its actually kinda playable on there! (Though movement and hit detection and stuff still need to be tweaked to get it feeling really good.)

disagree strongly. Since we're going into closed beta in order to generate funds to continue development, there needs to be as much positive press as possible, and the experience of customers has to be as good as possible - it only takes a good review at some site like IGN to get a lot of interest. this means that playability is king. How many people have tried to get into a server, failed a few times, then got frustrated and quit? I'm not saying playing only small maps is a magic bullet, but it certainly can't hurt the perception that the game can be played.

rockdown should just be the default map. Indeed, tram makes ns2 look bad because it really kills performance, but it is needed to optimize the engine!
I for one was really happy when i discvoered that i could actually play the game when playing on rockdown :) lots of fun :)

Rockdown and junction are only testmaps.
There will be a lot more maps as big as tram. Maybe even bigger ones for huge public servers.
So it makes sense to gain as much intel and experience from the issues tram has in order to avoid these mistakes in other maps.

Though I agree that rockdown should probably be the default map at least until tram and the game runs better.

I guess thats something the server admins have to decide, isnt it?

Still a lot of people have not realised that rockdown now has 5 tech points.
