Gorge healspray question time

<div class="IPBDescription">Noob. Utter noob.</div>I've been resisting making a new thread hoping that perseverance and existing resources would overcome any problems I run into but I'm stuck on a few things. Help me, oh Gods of forum...

1) <strike>Is there a 'hide groups' bit in the editor? Is there an auto groups bit in the editor? I've noticed the filters but they don't seem to work as faces still get selected when they are outside of the filter. I'd like to hide the model that displays where lights and spots are so I can look at a clear approximation of in game lighting.</strike>
2) How do you take screenshots in game? Steam overlay is disabled but printscreen returns a black abyss.
3) is there a way to 'ungroup' various vertices and faces and what not? Sometimes stuff moves that I haven't selected but it is touching stuff that I have got selected.
4) Creating a face (alt+c) is rarely working for me. I usually just control + select a number of edges (either existing or drawn using line tool) until I have a square suitable for a face but it doesn't seem to like it most of the time. It's not creating on the other side either, I checked.

Edit: I have found the layers window and found a workaround for the filter bug. It seems I can delete something in a hidden layer if it's part of a larger group (the larger group problem in point three): should invisible layers 'lock' stuff they have hidden? Might make sense for an update. Everything else is still relevant and texture lock (which I almost posted about but found) seems broken.
