A Word of Gratitude & Encouragment

to the UWE Team
UWE,

I took a break from NS2 for a few weeks and came back after Patch 158 to check things out. It is really shaping up! I am getting an average FPS of about 30 right now, which is better than what I used to get (20 or so). Everything seems to run smoothly. I do not have a beast of a computer, because I simply can't afford it right now. So, thank you for making NS2 playable for folks with a mid to low end gaming rig.

The power node system is awesome! As a mapper I am loving the dynamic light aspect of the game that the power nodes introduce. It really intensifies a marine's anxiety when he has to walk through a darkened area in order to reclaim a lost power node. Not to mention, it gives the aliens a wonderful advantage, and makes a skulk feel extra sneaky!

Keep up the great work.

Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas (or Hanukkah / Kwanzaa... you know...)

Cheers,
Cody

System Specs (FYI):

AMD Athlon Dual Core 2.6 Ghz
2 GB of RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
PNY nVidia Geforce 9800 GT 1 GB XLR8 Special Edition

Heh welcome back Cody, indeed the game is shaping up nicely. I just came back from a round and it was soo smooth, with some lag here and there but still 85% smooth.

    Got a 2.2Ghz C2D here with 2Gb of ram with a HD4850, I'm at a 20-25 fps here...

Oh, and if the UWE team really wants to put some icing on my cake, make NS2 work with Linux! I am loving the SLAX operating system right now! I really don't want to go back to Windows...

    Cheers,
    Cody

I must commend them on the updates UI for the menu buttons (bottom right), I think it could be improved in ways further - but it is excellent to use now.

This is making me extra jealous that I do not have my windows rig with me. The last build I played was a long time ago, maybe enough to say one of the first 'public' builds?

Or alternatively make a port for OSX :D

I wouldnt say 30fps is "smooth" but its better than what it was which is good ofc , platform
AMD Phenom IIx2 545 Pro 3.00GHz 4GB Ram , still having to run in horrible graphs settings just to make the game half playable. But as we all know its a working progress :)

Which distro do you like best?

I have tried DSL just for fun, but it won't run for some reason off my USB drive.

SLAX occassionally crashes, and I don't care for the "Modules" thing for software.

Ubuntu is OK, but it always seems sluggish to me. I tried Lucid Ubuntu as well as Peppermint.

    Any other recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Cody
