Gorge Build Upgrade at Hive Mass?

For maximum nostalgia
Since Replicate was removed, I've been thinking of an idea for Gorge to return to his former glory, without drastically changing Alien Commander's role (support abilities, upgrades, place tactical growths).
1) All Drifter-morphed structures require Dynamic Infestation to be placed (except Hive and Harvester)
-This limits early game Whip + Crag combos near Marine front, while keeping them from being nerfed to hell. Also, helps with the ceiling structure placement problem.
-Since Whips are supposedly offensive, maybe the Uproot ability doesn't require DI to replant a Whip.
2) At Hive Mass, there's an upgrade that enables Gorge's Build menu.
-As a Gorge (once upgraded from buy menu) you can access a detailed build menu in the buy menu, in the blank space beside the Gorge upgrades (credit to IeptBaraket)
-Since NS2 uses the Grid hotkey system, the build menu will likely be shaped as the Commander build menu.
3) Gorge-built structures cost personal resource.
-To balance between Carbon costs, Plasma cost will be double (or triple) the normal cost for each building (credit to IeptBaraket)
-This is what it looks like when placing a Whip (click for Malicious Drifter!)
For example:
Hive - 40 plasma
Harvester - 20 plasma
Whip - 20 plasma
Crag - 20 plasma
Shift - 20 plasma
Shade - 20 plasma
All costs subject to change, but essentially double the normal cost. Conveniently, this also helps limit Hydra production at mid to late game, with Gorges helping the Alien Comm. place structures on the frontlines. That is assuming there will be a hard cap for Plasma and Carbon :)
If you like this idea, please show your support! I would very much like for our beloved Gorge to receive what he most deserves!

An indeed valid concern, who's to say a single player won't disrupt the entire team (more importantly, the Alien Commanders) by spending all the Carbon?
Perhaps there should be a cooldown to this ability, something along the lines of 20 - 30 seconds for each Gorge player. It promotes good structure placement and helps prevent griefing.
Thanks for pointing that out, added cooldown to OP.
Edit: Nevermind, going with Plasma cost only.
And I'd like it if gorge dropped building was like double or triple the original cost. But in plasma.
It's the cost of building from the front lines instead of going back to the hive to build.

An excellent suggestion, much better than the dual resource cost. Added to OP for future reference :)
Well, that renders the cooldown idea obsolete, two birds one stone~
Also I think it would work well if the build commander structures menu for the gorges were lined up on the bottom of the alien evolution/buy menu. Except grayed out when you are not a gorge.

Hmm, I must search more thoroughly then :P (found it: http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...owtopic=111628)
The ghost model idea serves well as a hint to newcomers, but not accident proof (imagine helping a Crag grow but accidentally held on to +use when turning towards Tech Point)
The buy menu is also a good alternative, but I guess I prefer a more fast-paced method of construction in an FPS setting, without having my entire screen dimmed and obscured by the menu. Either way would be fine though.
Actually, I think it would be best for both buy menu and action slot methods to be implemented together, buy menu gives more opportunity for detailed tooltips while action slot for speed access.
If you really wanted to make it foolproof you could have a small build bar around that plasma indicator that is similar to the aliens health/energy bar with a 2 second hold time for it to fill and drop the structure.
Also with the build menu for the other alien structures, I think it works well because a gorge should be slightly vulnerable to drop something normally a commander would. It would also indicate to new players that it would have the text above it like 'Tech 3 Gorge Build Menu' so They would know they needed whatever it was called for the hive to be able to research and they would know the it's only for the gorge.
Also it's because I like the aspect of the Alien evolution/buy menu and seeing the chambers lined up on and the description and stats in the center when you hover over them. :V

I guess hold-key build works too, sort of like the Gorge's tummy needs to prepare itself :p
I understand how you feel about Gorge vulnerability while building; I just think that also having speed build will promote skill-based placement that separates the average Gorges from the career Gorges. Though, your point on visual aid stands firm still, and it never hurts to have good options.

*Imagines a gorge getting ready to puke out a hive o_o*
Also I don't remember, but it doesn't look like the evolutions are getting hotkeys to evolve. So the number keys could go to the structures and just have to tap b then 1,2,3,ect.
Making menu time short as a flash for those who memorized the slot number. As long as it closed when you dropped the chamber.

Belly expansion xD!!
I believe that would be a good compromise, makes it easier to cancel your current ghost building by mouse scroll, right click or key stroke. Adding to OP :)
All hail the Gorge and thanks for the support :D!!
Now that there's been word on Gorge potentially getting a spread DI ability, there wouldn't be any need to let Gorge-built structures be placed without DI, nor needing to slow their build speed off DI. Let's see how the prototype gameplay goes!
So DI = where comm can build and non-DI where gorge can build? I like it and it gives the gorge some of his NS1 building ability back.

Thanks, but I removed non-DI placement for now, see my post above yours :P
That is assuming spread DI means Gorge can create a patch of DI where he stands, not just extending existing DI around the Hive or something.
And how about gorge's being able to 'mature' alien structures? You could spend 20 plasma and then hold down the mouse key and watch as the gorge causes the whips/crags etc to grow larger and more powerful.

Yeah that sounds fine, as long as it requires hold-down to start the process with "Mature Whip - 20 Plasma" showing. Alien Commander will still handle all of the abilities and upgrades, so I don't see why not :)
They already have better structures, hives act as an all in one spawn/armory/command chair while remaining extremely tough, their structures can be built faster, are generally tougher especially with crag support, and if you let gorges build them willy nilly, that's kind of going to give aliens a huge buff.
