Hello, I recently purchased this game and have been playing around with it a bit. Beyond the bugs/performance/balance issues, I find myself more concerned with content. Everything this game offers, with the exception of the MAC and it's relative structure, seem to be identical to the first game.

No new aliens? No new weapons? (Besides melee axe and the siege robot)

I mean the game is beta, that should indicate that all the 'end game' structures / technology are in place, no?

It just seems as though for an entirely new game there wasn't much done to expand upon the first.

Flamethrower is new, the heavy armor is going to be an exoskeleton with miniguns, the alien classes have been rebalanced and given new or altered abilities, all the alien structures are different except the Hive, the LMG, HMG, and GL are gone, replaced by the assault rifle and its underslung grenade launcher, dynamic infestation is new, the entire flow of gameplay is new because hives and CCs can be built in the same kinds of areas, power nodes are new, the alien commander is new, welding is going to be different, marines can have multiple commaners, marines buying their own weapons is new, the maps are smaller and the games are going to be shorter, the developers have said that there is other stuff they have not announced yet, etc...

I'd say they've changed way, WAY more stuff than Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty 2 or something like that. The shift from NS1 to NS2 seems like the shift from Tribes to Tribes 2 or something similar. You have to keep enough of the original to retain what was good about it.

interesting. Reading the other threads everybody complains that ns2 is too different from ns1, now the oposite. I think they are doing something right then :)

Yeah, but at a first glance the game would look similar with shiny graphics. Might want to have a read up on the wiki to see what has been changed. Mind you not all end game content is in there yet.

Unlike the big guys in the gaming industry, what you are seeing here is a real beta. The big guys abuse the term :P

Uh. Like what? Aliens have lost abilities on every single lifeform.
Skulks are exactly the same but missing xenocide.
Lerk has the old spikes again, the same gas and lost umbra, scream, bite.
Gorge lost webs and every structure but OCs. Also lost bile bomb. It gained the awesome ability to cower and do nothing. It can slide but they say it's only going to work on infestation and ramps.
Fade's blink is an actual teleport. It lost the acid rocket and metabolize.
Onos can cower like the gorge, it can gore as always. Can't devour. Can't stomp. It can charge I believe.

The opposite of this. UW has said on this forum that they were "creative" with the definition of Beta in order to get more people to buy in earlier.

The rest of the gaming industry defines Beta as feature complete. UW isn't "abusing" the term, whatever it takes to get the funds to finish your game, but they are not using the industry-standard definition. End of ######cing discussion.
