Hive Mist Effects

Anyone know if this fills the hive room with mist?

Someone posted a screeny which showed foggy breath coming from a hive; which- as cool as foggy breath is- wasn't quite the James Cameron "omg im in a hive" type effect of awesomeness I felt on first seeing the progress tracker include hive mist effects.

yes, i do agree and I posted this last night. But when DI comes, the hive room will have more of an alien environment.
I wouldn't mind having misty enviroment over the DI to give it creepy feel.
Unless the mist changes once aliens get more hives?
I do hope the mist is improved though.

There will also be egg mist effects, which will increase as Mass and Colony come into play (moar eggs to scramble)

IF the hive room were to fill with mist, which it isn't, it would be relevant to volumetric lighting effects... which were taken out of the engine if I recall correctly

have volumetric lighting effects been returned, or are there plans to return them anytime soon?

If you check out the Fade Reveal, you can see them in the light coming in through the window. They're running in the dev build of the game, although they still need optimisation. They've not been forgotten, but I don't think they'll appear in public builds for a little while yet.

Do you know if the system will be flexible enough to handle things like volumetric fog effects?

There isn't really any differene, if you want floor-level volumetric fog you could just project a voumetric light with no diffuse qualities through the floor from an extreme distance.

    that isnt actually correct.

The system currently only works as part of individual light entities; basically they have an "atmospheric" flag and it takes its properties from the distance/radius and intensity properties of the lights. That isn't likely to be the way things will work in the end, but what features are implemented will be driven in the short term by artist/designer need. I expect fog effects to be created by a combination of default ambient fog, volumetric light effects and particle effects.

Put simply, I reckon the sort of visual effects you're looking at can be approached, but not until more work has been done.

The hive mist is simply some mist coming out the 'gills' of the hive. It makes the hive appear to be breathing.

    Works when I do it.

the lighting FX are not in, so what are you saying here? either way, what you are wrong about is that "There isn't really any differene [SIC]" between directional lighting FX and volumetric fog. The key part being "volumetric" as in bounded by an arbitrary volume
