Aliens: Something fair.. like the MASC ... krozara

ok the MASC (marine mobile siege cannon thingy) is highly useful to eliminate the aliens structures at a good speed. ALIENS ARE LEFT imbalanced left to grab what they barely have to fight against the marines.

MASC= for a inpenetrable defense of the aliens (mass hydras, crags, onoses fades ETC ETC.

ALINES= need something similar in a way

This is my idea:

Not sure what it will be called, for now lets just call it the krozara

the krozara can be controlled by alien commanders and it requires to be deployed (like the MASC) and therefore it is immobile when deployed and ready to fire. THIS is just like the MASC and can only shoot things in sight.

NOW for a more anti-technology alien based MASC i will now state that this ultimate structure breaking weapon is basicly a bile bomb cannon.

it shoots projectiles and it has a HUGE splash radius but has a relativly lengthy cool down between shots, high damage and it is splashed over an area of it's blast. THIS only effect STRUCTURES just like the MASC. Its alien, so it can regenerate yes... Yes a gorge can heal it, and yes it is counted as being a structure, not a unit.

QUESTION:

would a MASC or a krozara have a limit in games? or no? i have no idea but that is a question i am pondering.

Well what do you think? comment and please suggest if u may wish to.

I like the idea that aliens should have something as powerful as the masc (If thats not the role of a couple of onos?)
But not just a masc copy with some organic model ;) I'll admit that I got no imagination... So no comment on what it should be xD

Doesn't the Whip actually get some kind of upgrade in the future called bombard or something, which will be anti structure based? And uproot to move around the map...

BTW the MASC is now called ARC :P

I'd rather not add more symmetry to the game with an alien MASC. There's no reason to give the same advantage to both sides. I wouldn't be against some kind of semi-counter that rewards the better players.
Off the top of my head an example would be like an EMP alien tower that would shut down nearby MAC and MASC, that building would be a center point for conflicts because the Marines would be pressed to eliminate it, while the aliens need to defend it and take out the MASC threat.
That way it becomes less of 'I won that because i have X and you don't have Y' and more of 'We have X which gave us leverage against your Y but still won because we had better Z' That 'z' aspect being of the player and not some kind of ability or weapon coded into the game.

    Edit for paragraphing

Exactly, the whip is the alien MASC basically. Except it can be healed by crags and it's really tough and it can also ######slap marines.

Perhaps we'll get bilebomb on the Gorge again?

Meh, I'll link the Whip wiki here. It would fill that role rather nicely...

The Onos is reported to be the anti-building thingy.

i can understand your reply (someone) about not being symetrical to the marines, as you know marines are technology, aliens are biology.

So i think something to a certain extent Powerful should be built that is a much more alien type of thing, after all i did state that this "ideal" alien ARC would be shooting massive bile bombs and not shooting like a air cannon or whatever the ARC shoots (lol what does it shoot?)

One option is to maybe let DI wrap into a marine's base and crush/take over structures as it spreads.

I dunno. The line of sight limitation is pretty huge.

Also, it's alright for one race to have better things than other races. That's the definition of asymmetry. The other races just need something they are better at too for balance.

Aliens are much quicker than marines. So while marines can fortify attacks with ARC support, aliens can attack multiple places at once to ensure at least one goes down if the marines are all clustered in one hallway defending an ARC.

So I think it'll work out. Remember, the ARC can't kill players. It needs to be babysat. That's marines not only attacking but committed to staying next to the ARC. That's instant map control loss (Getting pinned to the ARC reduces mobility), and aliens can use their double (or greater) movement speed to leverage increased map control very well.

Aliens don't need something to shoot sentries thats what lerks are for perfect for long range combat anti-personal or anti-sentry. Spikes are good for taking out people and tech. spores are good for flushing out people while other aliens destroy tech. can't you see the strategy.

Can't wait for the Whip walk to be implemented. Can you imagine towards the end of the game when aliens are dominating, and the commander suddenly uproots 5+ Whips and sends them into marine spawn.

    Hilarious much?

(Edited: Looks like I got off track in the middle of my post)

I am curious about the effectiveness of the ARC and the Mature Whip.

I understand that ARC and M.Whip will excel at destroying (esp whips/sentries) structures from long range. However, they will require LoS to attack their targets and take a while to set up. Strategically placed Sentries/M.Whips will attack the ARC/M.Whip as it is setting up, possibly even destroying it.

So are ARCs and Mature Whips only for "cleaning up" bases?

On a side note, I wonder how will both teams combat "turret farms" (both Sentries and Whips), if the siege weapons are unable to out-range the turrets? Marines already have the grenade launcher to attack around corners; What player-based siege weapon will the aliens have?

The Onos comes to mind :)

In fact, a pair of 2 Onos' could probably bust a hole in heavily fortified turret farms, granted they take advantage of Bone Shield and some Lerk/Fade support. Though, Kharaa are lacking in the range attack department, maybe we'll see more late-game abilities for some lifeforms as the features roll in.

    +1

Marines will need to dedicated a player with a flamerthrower to hold back the infestation! that would be awesome :)

I'm surprised that people are giving whips so much praise. The range of the whips make them almost useless and the only place you can put them are corners. The downside is, is that as it stands, the comm ui is so not newbie friendly because you have no idea where you can put a whip or crag. I mean, the squares on the map should be X'd out where you CAN'T put it.

I'd love an upgrade to increase the range of whips. Would probably prefer that more than a Mature Whip upgrade. Make it more in line with turret spams (except you can place turrets nut to butt next to each other).

I believe Mature Whips were designed to have a ranged AOE attack (goo catapault). We'll just have to wait patiently, like watching a Whip grow. :P

It will be creepy to see 4 or 5 of those walk into marine start ^^

Perhaps a way for them to walk up walls and be on the ceiling? :P
