shotguns

realistic feel of the weapon you carry is important. Shotguns especially require better recoil system than the current one we have - when shooting them they feel like rifles or any other weapon. And they don't honestly look like shotguns, you only notice them by hearing them. The model of the shotgun may need to change.

I'm not talking about any huge recoils, but their should be better difference between shooting rifle and shotgun - recoil wise.
weapons need to feel/look different from other not just by sound.

    I don't fully understand what you are trying to say..

    I think the model for the shotgun is fine. It is a furturistic game and in my opinion the weapons do not have to look realistic.
    I like the look of the shotgun and the other weapons. The shotgun looks bulky and looks like it could pack a punch and it does just that.

    I was trying to say two things.

    1. the shotgun doesn't have much recoil when shooting it. When i shoot it, it doesn't feel much different than rifle expect for the sound.
    2. shotgun itself doesn't look/feel like i'm holding shotgun.

    I'm aware its futuristic weapon, but they should look more apart from each other. In ns1 shotguns/rifles and GL's all look completely different from each other.
    Maybe its just me, but rifle and shotgun do look the same and the shotgun doesn't have much recoil when shooting it.
    So if the look of the weapon can't be changed, at least better recoil added to the shotgun would be nice. So when shooting it, it would feel like it.

    I don't really like actual sound of the shotgun ... it would be better with a more louder and impressive sound.

    What do you mean when you say recoil? As you know, recoil (which causes bullet spread or view shifting) isn't in the game, because it is necessary to the gameplay for it not to be.

    i think he means he wants the shotgun to give the marine backwards momentum and have some sort of crosshair drift/muzzle climb

    I don't think recoil is needed, it's hard enough for a marines to aim an alien without :p

    im sorry honey but this isnt your old fashioned 1990 shotty, this is a futuristic shotty, EVEN with an example today of an advanced autoshotgun.

    You think theres any recoil with that? i dont think so, call this topic closed because recoil from shotguns are history.

    rifle and shotgun shouldn't feel the same when firing, and shotgun does indeed need better recoil. Without good recoil system aiming becomes too easy. I'm not saying adding any huge recoil, but small kick back to the player. Make the player feel the difference between rifle and shotgun firing.

    I'd like to have a little more visual kickback given to the shooting animation on the model, and I would say the spread is too tight. I'd like it to be more versatile for up-close combat (you charge in with a shotgun, not a precision weapon) and be able to use the butt end for a melee attack, which doesn't seem possible from the games I've played in thus far. I think it should also have a pretty limited range for full damage, but if you catch a full load of gorge-shot in the face, it should do some serious damage.

    Quick summary:

    Kickback animation
    Bigger spread / wider firing cone
    More damage close up, much less at medium to long range

    If it's just, say, a slight backward recoil animation (which restores fast enough to match the highest rate of fire of the shotgun), then fine. But no muzzle climb, and no backward force on the marine. We value our accuracy and mobility.
    I think it's mainly the soundscape and muzzleflashes that need more work, honestly.

    larger muzzle flash... YES i feel the same atually...

    anyone else agrees please say so the possibility of it being increased is for certain.

    i also have an idea, what if when your firing the shot gun your crosshair doesnt move and your position stays the same BUT your model that is holding the shotgun will look like it has a bit of a recoil kick back as a visual.

    so then it looks like after every shot the gun raises a bit

    I don't think UWE operates on popularity - or at least I hope they don't. I think they recognise an idea (given that it has enough exposure) and evaluate it based on its merits and whether it fits into their vision of NS2; rather than community consensus.

    some people cant even start ns2 because of their cards or their certain hardware

    i think the better comes after it can work.

    let this topic come alive later when newer editions of beta are releases... who knows maybe they already planned to improve shotgun (or not)

    overall they gotta make it look like when it shoots theres a visual of the marine's arm carrying the gun tilts back a bit every shot or something, idk.

    I have no confidence in the shotgun at the moment, either the netcode causes it to be inaccurate or its a bug in the game, but whenever I come across a fade the shotgun is no threat to them at all.

    really... it works for me...

    but i think from a close to medium range its a little wacky. Nothing much, apart from the awkward way that the bullets spread.
