<div class="IPBDescription">Disconnected (Couldn't establish a connection with the server)</div>Hello,
I know many people are experiencing the same issues when trying to connect to NS2 Servers. Hence a low Server population.
To recreate the issue:
Load up NS2
Try and connect to a server (not Local)
Error appears "Disconnected (Couldn't establish a connection with the server)"
I understand there are many bugs at the moment, however, this one I think is especially important as it's stopping many people from testing the Beta.
I have created a dedicated server from scratch and configured all settings within it. I can see people connecting to it with no problems. When I try to connect, I get the same error "Disconnected (Couldn't establish a connection with the server)".
I have performed packet traces on the Server and several of my local machines and all of them show no errors and lots of communication (Even though I have received this error my machine is still receiving packets from the server).
The second phase once a connection is established is the authentication phase, where I never get to, so I am thinking the issue could also be around this? (Does NS2 use VAC or do anything special when talking to the Steam Authentication Servers?)
I thought perhaps it's not a network issue due to the earlier traces and perhaps a strange local configuration issue. So I tried 2 other machines on the same network and get the same problem.
Therefore I am leaning towards router configuration / NAT.
FYI: All Ports have been forwarded correctly and Firewalls disabled for testing purposes.
Has anyone recently experienced issues connecting to servers? If so can we start a discussion on this thread with your setup.
Players that can connect - Is there anything specific you did? Are you using a router? Firewalls?
Thanks,
Adama

it's weird that others can connect to your own server and you can't. try a clean slate and get back to us.
I knew this was going to happen - soon as I post I manage to get it working...
Okay, the only thing I have changed is the Router (got a 5 year old one)...
Now I authenticate and login perfectly.
I know other people are experiencing issues like this. Luckily I can recreate the issue, so in theory all I need to do is compare router settings and hopefully post a solution for anyone else who has this issue. I will let you know if I do find the fix.
LMAO...! :)

Glad you got it working, welcome to the forums.
For future reference:
I've gone through the configuration on both routers and changed the configuration of the original router to match the working router...still doesn't work with the original router.
Original router: NETGEAR N150 DGN1000
Working router: NETGEAR DG834 V2
On the working router I have not performed any port forwarding and is at factory default settings...
I have tried reverting the original router to factory defaults and restored it's original firmware to no avail.
A very strange problem with no obvious fix (that i can think of) - but for me, using another older router has resolved the problem. I hope this information helps anyone experiencing similar issues.
When setting the port forwarding on that modem/router you need to specify an IP of the computer where this ports are forwarded, so you need to use static IP on your computer. If you use dinamic IP every time you re-start your computer the IP may change and the rule on the internal firewall of the modem/router is useless.
Other games work flawlessly? I mean, HL2 deathmatch, TF2 and similar source based games which use the same ports.
Anyway, you may want to contact Netgear to solve the problem.
