Are guys planning to put NS2 on Desura? I think it'd be a good idea, it's already selling a few indie games. You could attract a nice user base from it too, and more advertising. It's kinda like Steam, but for Indie developers.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Introducing Desura, our take on how we believe game digital distribution should be done. Our aim with Desura is to provide access to the latest, greatest and new/old games available on the market. We are 100% indie-friendly and the only digital distribution service out there with the ambitious aim of supporting user-made mods for games. While we only have a few titles available at the moment, we look forward to filling it with the best of the best (and encourage devs of all shapes and sizes to get in touch). Expect new games and mods daily, as we add great titles from years gone by and attempt to get all new releases on Desura.

Gamers, on Desura you have a voice, ranging from reviewing your favourite games, presenting ideas and criticisms (constructive ones) to the developers and interacting with the rest of the community.

Developers, you are in charge and have complete control over your games on Desura. Including but not limited to how you distribute, test, patch, market and support your games. Post news, images, videos and other updates regularly to engage with the community and build the biggest fan base you can, just as you already do on ModDB and IndieDB.

We still have a long road ahead (and a nifty list of features coming which really sets Desura apart) so expect to hear a ton from us as we integrate Desura into the ModDB and IndieDB and make it super easy to get games or mods on the service. Feedback is welcome, so grab the Desura installer today and start idling (+ getting games / mods of course!)

I'd also like to shout out to all of the indie developers (and mod teams) who have taken the time to get their game on the service. You should buy all of these games and support indies and the ModDB and IndieDB team. Your help goes a long way.

You guys could even get the beta up on it right now...I think it'd be a good idea.

I've tried Desura and Steamworks and technically Steamworks is better. Maybe financial part is better. But Desura has very few users and Steam has 30M (3M active at once at daily peak). When they release NS2 - make it possible to buy NS2 from Steam store I'm sure they'll get lots of sales.

Desura is mostly attractive to mod teams since they don't pay any money to Valve and are treated like ######.

Valve treats mod teams very well.

Yes, they're releasing on Steam. It's not an exclusive platform, so not sure what you're on about. They can be on Steam & Desura and it won't make a difference lol.

Why bother, Desura has 100k users at most and Steam 30M.

If you think Valve treats mod teams well to talk to Jason Ruymen first (if he'll answer you in this millenium) .:)

I do think, because several Indie teams have commented on how Valve was essential to their prosperity as a company, such as Tripwire Interactive, makers of popular games like Red Orchestra & Killing Floor. They said it would -not- have been possible without Valve. That Valve offered them support, and additional manpower at no charge to them.

I hear it's a lucrative deal, and that Valve takes the least % of any release format out there.

Why bother? Why bother to appeal to the fanbase that, well, uh, is supporting your game?

Why bother? You support a group of like minded people. It may be 300 times smaller using the numbers in this thread; however sometimes it's not all about the money. Largely it is, sometimes, it's about doing the right thing.
