If there is going to be cloak: idea for cloak

cloak, everything is completely covered up, cannot see the alien except for the orange glowly parts (gorge's belly, for structure's glowy parts, drifter's yellow/orange parts.

so all of the offensive (fade, skulk, onos lerk) will be nearly completely cloaked or completely cloaked.

just an idea so that cloak isnt great against the targeted structures and gorge.

i like the bright iluminating glow of orange/yellow.

that kinda defeats the purpose of cloaking if you can still see the parts that stand out the most

BUT for the orange yelloy parts only, which are very small parts of the whip (its base) the insides of the crag, hydras, gorges, hives, drifters.

NOT onos skulk and fade as they dont have any bright glowy orange parts.

    get me?

Gamers in general are very good at seeing things that should not be there... even little orange glowy parts would just be a big sign saying: "SHOOT HERE FOR PROFIT!"

i understand exactly what you are saying and im saying it makes no sense. if anything you'd put more effort into camoflauging the obvious parts of yourself, not allow them to show.

I reckon that the aliens should be fully invisible (at least when they are still or slow moving) - but then marines can use their flashlights to cast shadows from the invisible aliens (yeah maybe the flashlight is special so it can do this...)

So you can't see the aliens, but you will see their shadows if you turn on your flash light :)

but something that is invisible wont cast a shadow since light is already passing through it. have a cloak field like predators where although the person is invisible, theres enough distortion of light to make a recognisable shape if you look carefully enough

NS1 cloaking was originally only 95% effective, leaving a barely visible silhouette. It could still be seen by the naked eye under decent lighting conditions, and was very noticeable if it moved, but was still hidden enough to be useful. That faint visibility made it a skill-based ability that required good judgement to use effectively, but didn't cripple it like leaving glowing spots would. It was only changed to 100% in the first place because certain graphics configurations broke it, making cloaked aliens fully visible when they shouldn't have been. If that issue can be avoided in a Spark implementation of the same effect, that'd definitely be the way to go.

thats why i said its a "special flash light" so that it does make it cast a shadow.

the predator thing would only work, if the levels were busy enough, like flashing lights, moving machinery, plants swaying, paper floating around etc. but when the levels are very static, its very easy to spot something like the predators cloak, and it becomes useless. sadley, because it looks cool :)

I like the idea of a cloak that gets harder and harder to spot when you stand still.

Imagine leaning against the wall and you hang there for a few moments to cloak and wait for someone to walk by.

Not nessisarily look at something like halo, they do a awesome camo, looks like the predator just a modern day version, and it works nicly on those static Halo maps. besides NS2 would benefit from something like that, which alters the view ever so slightly. that's type works, they used it in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. too, and I do say they got be a while when it came to close encounters. What NS2 mostly is...
