[Upgrades] Boots and Gloves

His DudenessHis Dudeness Join Date: 2011-01-07 Member: 76550Members
Boots: increases backward speed and possibly jump height. (with the 3rd upgrade; backward speed will be the same as it was prior to 160)

Gloves: increases accuracy (or) decreases recoil

Just an idea....

    nice photoshop work!

not a bad idea, having more rts elements isn't a bad thing, but i think we could think of something a little more technologically advanced than boots and gloves.

how about adrenaline shots (stimpaks), not to rip off starcraft but soldiers using drugs to enhance their game has been around for a very long time IRL.

Good idea and nice image work.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the Marine's to purchase these upgrades from the Armory? Basically modifications to their armor?

Also, as Kouji pointed out, I think UW is already planning something like this with the Catalyst paks.

motion-assisting robotic legs, and motion-assisting robotic arms. basically: parts of an exoskeleton. i'm sure you've seen robotic exoskeleton arms, but let me bring up a relevant video, especially in terms of the legs:

Extrapolate to military-grade armour, and future technology.

Good idea and good graphics work, OP.

When I read the thread title, I had assumed this, then found out different. But I'd like it either way.

I like the idea, but I dislike the Boot1, Boot2, Boot3 upgrade system. It should just be one upgrade for the boot and glove to get the added benefit.

Thanks guys for the ups. I really like Harimau's idea about the motion assisting robotic arms/legs; good replacement for the basic boots and gloves.

I don't think it should be an individual upgrade purchased by the player but an upgrade by the commander which effects the entire team. I think the upgrades should be achieved without a second command station and without the upgraded armory. Some games get to the point where rines can't get the second base up and they end up sitting in their base waiting for whatever to attack them with resources stacking up without any use. If the boots/gloves are made available without the second command station then it might give the marines a legitimate chance of pushing out in certain situations when all hope is lost. That is also why I have it has L1, L2, and L3. If the rines are pushing out then chances are they are spending their resources on a command base, armory and ip and not those upgrades but if they are stuck in their base then they can use those resources to upgrade L1, L2, and L3 to help them push out.

I like the idea of the commander unlocking upgrades, and letting marines pick them. Basically the current system giving marines power to customize but to a limited extent.

EX: I'd rather have little more weapon accuracy than armor. Something along those lines where i get to pick how to spend my plasma.

I think boots and gloves are a little too specific of upgrades lol.

Actually now that I think about it, I think a combination of both options is a good idea. Commander buys the unlock L1 and it gives the option for marines to start purchasing the boots and/or gloves. The commander can then upgrade to L2 boots/gloves which upgrades the armory boots/gloves; so marines that purchase boots/gloves will have L2 boots/gloves. It might make sense to have the cost increase a little. Same thing with L3. Lets say a marine is on a killing spree and hasn't died then there could be a discounted option for those who have L1 and the upgrade is currently on L2/L3.

I'm just thinking of things that will help balance things out if marines can't push out in the later part of the game.

What about soft, moist absorbent, athletic foot reduction socks - increases health by 5% :)

I like the idea, but I don't want it to be in NS2

I'd rather see extensions of sight and hearing, then boots and gloves.

For instance, the marines have a 'holo' display. How about an upgrade that provides visual information, such as:

    # Outlining vents to make them more obvious
    # Infra red tracking (heat left on floor from where aliens have been walking, good for seeing where aliens have gone up walls to hide)
    # Alien health information

Or perhaps a hearing upgrade, that dims all atmospheric sounds and helps the player to locate the direction of alien movement and fire.
