Decals, did they come or not?

i guess they are very important and not that hard to insert?
The weapons don't have decals, also the bloodeffects a bit tiny all that is for a beta...hmm ok.
But will UWE add decals later?
Its very important and i don't know, decals are very important, bulletdecals or blooddecals, both are very important to see who was shooting or dying after 1 second because the ragdoll disapear in like 2-4 seconds.

In my mind blooddecals, bullet decals and "on player" decals are important.
Is it that hard to insert a "decalsystem" in Ns2?
I have no idea about adding decalsystem in c++.

    Yes it is on the list somewhere, Cory mentioned decals are not in yet but that they are coming.

    I don't mean to offend Price, but a lot of your posts are questions that can probably be answered after a reasonable search. They are also staple elements for any game, and I can't imagine there are games out there that don't use them?

    If you consider they have programmed an engine that has dynamic lighting used in a way unlike any other game, the future release of DI and some very smart editing tools for the community among 1000s of lines of code and other things that make up for a very complex and exhausting engine, the simple answer is that Max + team can implement it - if he has the time and wants to, or just has not gotten to it yet.

    Also, the topic / post spam just seems to be someone trying to up their post count, rather than asking a valid question.

    Oh you call my threads spam but the others like "movies, songs with gorge" are wonderful?
    Seriously...i talk about the game and don't spam dude,this is a forum to talk about the game!

    So if you don't like it, don't look at the threads...thanks.

    I didn't come here to pick a fight, or throw forum guidelines at you. It's just how it seems that's all. The difference between those posts and this is that it is a yes/no answer to a question about 'decals'. You also have a new topic post on the inclusion of LOD.

    They are probably answerable by searching, or even better in one post. Anyway, I'm out of here before something kicks off.

    You know if i put a lot of questions in one thread, it will be "overlooked" but you are a tiny tiny tiny bit right, lod and decals could be put in one thread.
    But thats not a reason to call me a spammer or saying i spam the forums...you could tell me over private message or something.
    Anyway, maybe some of the developer say something about decals, when they use it and can say some technical aspects.

    I believe it's something that is being worked on for the first release. It's something the forum and dev mappers want to be able to place in maps too so you're not alone.

    It's nice to see you guys have enthusiasm, but jeez, get a room ;)

    Do you believe "spray" decals will make a comeback? Theres nothing better than running around a map splattering horrible paint-esque graphics about.

    There was rumor of allowing flash decals, but now that flash is being dropped... :p

    You can not find the contents of the various Gorge threads by doing a simple search. Most, if not all, of your omglolpostcount++ fall under the heading "Should have done a search".

    Kthx.

    Yes, decals are still on the list for release. I wouldn't say they are easy to program. The amount of time to program them into the game is dependent on the form of implementation. For example, is it just a texture mapped onto a flat plane that floats in front of a surface? Does the decal conform and map to the surface of a more complicated shape, such as a blood splatter decal that bends around to follow the angles of a certain prop, or wall extrusion? How much control over placement of it does the mapper have? Can they rotate, scale, and move it around easily to get it exactly where they want it? Does the effects artist have control over how a blood splatter or bullet decal that they make appears in game?

    Compared to some of the other programming tasks left on the list, decals is not one of the bigger ones, but it also is not one of the higher priority ones, either, so it may still be some time before its in the game.

    think there needs to be a Q&A page as a limitation from simple questions...

    Thank you for your fast and very informative answer, gives me and the community a very good insight that all the stuff isn't that easy.
    So everyone know now, the decals will come some day.
    Sure it can be known but now its confirmed.

    @Insane
    Thanks

    @Tig
    I don't say i don't like them, i write in them, but its nothing realy about the NS2, its "general talk about NS" ;)

    @Silverwing
    Seriously, is everything ok with you?
    There is a off-topic thread, rage there

    It's also one of those features that needs to involve more than just programmers - effects artists and level designers need to be involved too. As Cory points out, it requires a lot of planning because it's something where we need to sit down and think about what kind of implementation is most appropriate for what we want to achieve with the look of the game.

    Speaking as a level designer, it's also something that isn't too important early on, because they're part of the later process of polish, where a good level turns into something more visually impressive and immersive. I really want decals, but I'm not worried about them right now, because my work isn't yet at the point where they're particularly important.
