Will my laptop spec play Natural Selection 2

Before you start flaming or redirecting me to links and stuff
I want to say I have checked the system requirement on the buy page and I know 1.2ghz and 128mb Graphic card and 1 gb ram seems very vague/ unreasonable since the gameplay graphic looks sooo smooth and High-Definition. I have searched through the forum topics related to system requirement, but I have not found any valid answer, no one truly answered the question.

I have been a veteran player in Natural Selection 1. It was one of the best RTS/FPS i ever played in junior high school after I was introduced to it. Now that I am in college I want to be a part of the community again. But the problem is I'm not sure if my computer spec will support it, I don't wanna fork out money and end up not being able to play smoothly.

my computer/laptop spec is

intel core duo 2.0ghz
4gb ram,
512mb nvidia 9300m gs
windows vista 64 bit

will anyone who have similar specs or have comment please post down below I would appreciated it. Were you able to play only on low setting, does it lag, smooth, etc. any detail would be helpful.

a wild guess from me would say yes, perhaps not on the highest settings, but yes.

Now you won't know before the final release is out and nobody can really tell you, not even the programmers, because before you start optimizing the engine you don't know where you will end up.

The game will not work for you. If they manage to get to optimized enough it will run on lowest setting (possibly have to tweak bit).

Wait year or so, but if you wanna enjoy graphics you need to upgrade.

At lowest settings, and not that well - at the moment.

keep in mind the performance now can not be compared to the performance when the game is released.

    i got a i7 720m with a 4650m gfx card @1600* resolution => no smooth playable fps. (Dell 1747)

I dont think it will get playable at your speccs, even if opimized... The Gfx card is from 2008 and even back then it was low end, meant for office and movies only. Sure it can run HL2 or similar stuff but that are 7 years old games.

NS2 Beta is completely unplayable at the lowest settings for me with my C2D P8400 (2.26 Ghz), Radeon 3650 Mobility, and 4 GB of RAM. I consistently have under 20 FPS and incredible amounts of mouse lag. No doubt engine optimization will increase the performance, but I remain skeptical whether it's going to increase it to the 60 FPS necessary to match my monitor refresh rate.

i got a similar system except for the graphics adapter -> totally unplayable atm. not even testable ;)

Cant even run games from 2007 smoothly at 1024* resolution...

oh no, i just blew $34.95 and was crossing my finger hoping it played. Here's how it went after downloading, loaded the menu smooth, adjust all settings to major low, joined random, game, uber lag... press console, type disconnect, alt F4.

I got a general question how come older games like lets say a game like battlefield 2, i can run it even on ultra high setting and the graphic looks amazing, but even on low in newer games like bioshock, crysis, ARMA2, the graphic looks pixelated and choppy, and unplayable.

is it better for developers to beta test with lower graphic and shaders, dont know the term for it, but allow the majority with lower end graphic and cpu to play and test before increment higher pixels, shaders, gpu-wise. allowing more people to test- the beta get more done, remove more bugs.

do not worry. The game is not optimized AT ALL right now. You will find that currently the LUA code of the game takes quite some time to execute (for example the garbage collector), physics are slow etc. This is all beeing worked on.

You bought the final game. You have the privilege the beta test the game. Now some have more chance with that than others depending on the hardware configuration, but rest assured that the game will get faster.

Lowest setting for now will get you it slightly playable, at a low res on that spec. When optimised, you might be able to push it to a standard res at low/medium. Your GFX card is on the very slow side unfortunatly.

Marksman I'm sorry I didn't reply in time - I have the same graphics card and can't play it on it. Of course, the Spark engine has so much room for exciting improvement, I expect it will be playable on both our laptops come release :)

I'm sorry, but that graphics card isn't designed for modern 3D gaming at all. It's better than Intel onboard graphics, but it's still integrated, achingly slow, and relatively old. There's no good reason to expect it to be playable later (ie. 30+FPS), though it does meet the required directx level. Your CPU is great.

    This.

Your GPU is probably the weakest link of your system. I suspect it would be enough for the final, optimized release, but it might not.
