Been wanting a game like this for a long time. So I'm definitely interested - though, I don't have any money for it until next month :(
On that note, I can't find anything about how much it costs. Not on steam or the game's own website. Any idea how much it costs? well, if nothing else, I guess I'll see tomorrow.
Edit: oh, erh, at the end of their video they say ~$10
Bought.
Also, looks like there is a demo out already.
Now I just need 4 non-cheap friends on this side of the planet.
I could tell the magic system had a fair bit of depth, but balancing makes it so one mage can't really keep control on all of the enemies AND do decent damage. This meant that winding up some of the bigger more impressive stuff was simply out of the question. It basicially came down to spamming 1/2 element spells between heals.
It seems interesting, and mechanically it is probably great when you've got a full group for co-op and you don't have to handle crowd control, damage and healing by yourself. However I've personally not had much luck when it comes to 4 player co-op on the PC. I've have trouble getting a group of friends together for more 'mainstream' games like L4D or Rainbow 6, or even a free game like Alien Swarm. An indie game by some Scandinavian drop-outs? That might be a tough sell.
I need to be able to derive some level of enjoyment from the single-player for any co-op focused game to justify the cost, and with Magicka that doesn't look like it will happen.
The single player will be fun for a play through, or possibly 2, but that's about it. With local MP and MP over Steam I think it should be golden though. My one problem is that it really needs voice chat to make it perfect, but that can be supplied outside of the game.
As for single player being samey, I really didn't think so. I went through the entire demo and constantly was futzing about with different spells. Fully powered ones had their places as did low power ones. I eventually ended up sticking to arcane/lightning a lot, but that was just because I found those 2 the most fun for me, and I would still switch out spells at different times. Killing a troll is much easier if you use a nice big boulder, shields make things hilarious (seriously, fire/rock shields had me cracking up as mobs would try to destroy them and simply burn to death.
My one problem is actually that certain things seem just too powerful. You can easily put up a shield bubble, boost it up, and then spam out fire walls outside of it.
As a side note: Who has tried this with a game pad? IT feels like the game pad input method, while nifty, would be much slower than keyboard/mouse.
Gamepad plain didn't work for me. There's even a X next to it in the controls menu, though I'm not sure what that actually means.
That said, even simple shields like Rock/fire are also wonderfully powerful.
I don't actually have a 360 controller, or one that acts like one (unless I hack around and get my PS3 controller responding as a 360 controller...), so I was just curious.
It seems like it would be fun to get my friends over, and get them to bring controllers.
There are a few secrets even in the demo, btw.

So, ummmmm
I put on my robe and wizzard hat.
well, ok, I don't do it now because I'm at work, but when I get home I want to get some 4 player coop of this going.
I just played through chapters 1 and 2 in a 4 player coop.
Keywords:
- Hilarious.
- You die.
- "I'm dead (again), can you guys ressurrect me?"
- "Oops"
Anyway erhm.. It's sort of like Alien Swarm, in that it's top down arcade coop. But, has aspects of nethack as well, because things will go wrong. In fact, I think I used most of the time in game to sort out myself from various accidents caused be me and my fellow players. (like casting fire on myself to thaw myself, or healing myself due to damage, or similar). But this was partly because: 1) Most of us were totally new players, so, we were often playing around and experimenting with hilarious results. 2) we often couldn't resist playing around even at the risk of safety. With more experienced (and serious!) players this won't really be an issue (though, we found it absolutely hilarious most of the time)
There are definitely some good coop elements in the game mainly arising from the spell system, for instance: at one boss (the one the demo ends with) we devised a plan to kill it by crossing elements of opposing beams under it (this results in a massive explosion) so we could harm the head. Also, went about making people wet with the water spell so people could do extra damage with the lightning spell. Finally, I imagine more serious players would try to coordinate spell types and elemental shield types in order to avoid friendly fire and maximize damage potential.
Hope that's something along the lines of what you where interested in.
Sadly my favourite attack was not very smart in coop, the ice shotgun was easy to hit friends with :P. Oh well have to sleep now, guess I play more tomorrow ;).

Add me if you want to play. Tyrain@gmx.de.
Having the gameplay boil down to pressing half a dozen buttons in sequence kinda sucks, the idea of using different spells to different effects is interesting but when you have to memorise a million button sequences to use them, it is kind of not fun.
Haha, my thoughts exactly.
Anyone know how to use the active ability of a staff? Can't seem to find it.
OMG; just got an M60. ^^
Best combo yet:
Rain: water, water, fire, space bar. Then arcane, frost. Kills basically anything within seconds and freezes enemies.
Staff active ability is simply pressing middle mouse button... duh.
when you have no elements in the queue :P
Because, you know reaching for that emergency teleport/fear/heal/whatever when you have like 5 stacks of fire built up?
bad.
:P
I think I just found a new use for my G15 Keyboard's "G" Keys. See if can make the combo's a little easier to manage.
Does the retail version of the game have Diablo-style drops? (Armour, rings, weapons etc?) I think that would add nicely to the replay value.

Steam doesn't cancel out lightning.
QFASSS shiftcast = 2500 to half the screen
or just QFAS for murder beam, got to 32000 with Vlad as practice dummy when holding the beam for as long as possible

nice find :D and if your target is already wet, substitute just a frost for the steam, and your target will take even MORE damage, while being frozen solid :o

omg I've got a G510 and I didn't even think of that.
I would just like to add that the game's sense of humor is awesome.
That was hilarious. Although that fight was really buggy. I won it by reflecting one of his bombs with a shield... He was still at 100% life tho...
I got a g19 and I didnt think about it either :P. Either I add Magicks to it, or just the standard spells XD. I think it migh be so op it gets boring tho, but we will see XD (thunderbolt spam!!!)

yeah that's pretty much what happened =p I bound one key to rain, one key to haste, and one key to my facemelt beam (ASRAA), and that's pretty much all I need. I keep my shield up so I don't get wet in the rain, rain wets everything, beam destroys anything that's wet, gg.
