Steam update vs full reinstall

To date, I have seen multiple forum reports that reinstalling ns2 able to fix problems caused by an update -- including sound stuttering, lockups, etc. Next time someone has problems like this and decides to reinstall, try renaming your ns2 folder and reinstalling. Then, do a full compare between the two versions. Presumably, there should be no differences (besides maybe log files). If you do see differences, post them here (filenames, etc).

P.S. I've found Beyond Compare to be a good multifile/folder comparison tool. There are others as well.

not so how much difference this will do, but i've done fresh install today and it seemed to run bit smoother. Maybe it was just tested on small server population but it wasn't so bad.

my fps did drop to 19 lowest but it was staying 30-40 the whole game. Although running through the hallways it was spiking, and once i ran through the hive where crags/whips were it dropped to 19. Although it spiked slowly to 30ish.

maybe fresh install is better for each patch, not sure.
