Exactly like starcraft's 2v2 matches. 2v2 matchups are an incredibly easily coded gold mine for casual NS2 gaming when super serious 1v1 matchups get annoying. 2v2 matchups don't even have to be balanced as rigorously as core 1v1 gameplay (and core 1v1 gameplay should always take priority).

You've heard of the traditional Aliens vs. Marines (AvM). You've also heard of Alien vs. Alien or Marine vs. Marine (AvA and MvM).

I suggest AMvAM, AMvAA, AMvMM, meaning multiple separate teams fight other multiple separate teams. Aliens can team up with Marines to fight two teams of Marines, et cetera. In lore terms, the aliens could be mind controlled Marine lab experiments needed to fight two other human groups. Make up the lore as you go along :D

I think it'd be a pretty fun diversion from 1v1 and seeing Aliens and Marines team up <i>naturally</i> is awesome (pun intended). It obviously would not be balanced except in mirror matchups (IE: AMvAM) and probably shouldn't be balanced, considering balancing every possible matchup along with traditional 1v1 AvM would be a logistical nightmare, and the traditional 1v1 AvM matchup takes priority.

It should be easy to code up even by a community member in LUA to work on any map, but I'd like to see it as an official feature offered to all users with UWE's blessing (otherwise it <i>might</i> briefly spread before eventually dying out like AvA and MvM died out in NS1).

    Be more ambitious. I'd say shoot for 8 team FFA. Now that would be an amazing mod :)

    Sounds like it could be fun, one thing you didn't mention is how it would be possible to tell the friendly aliens from the aliens who are trying to eat you? I don't think different colours would work as it would be hard to tell which one it is, especially in the dark.

    I guess playercounts might be an issue, since 20-player-servers (normally considered large) would result in merely 5 players on each team, not counting commanders. But then, maps might not be that much larger, so it could still work fine...

    afaik NS2 is going to support up to 32 players which means that there can be at least 8 people play Marine and 8 pe3ople play aliens per side.

    I don't know if AMvAA, AMvMM is needet because you can even have two commanders in a vanilla AvM game.
    AMvAM sounds really interesting! Even for a Mod that would be awesome.
    But (there is always a "but", isn't it?) you will need a hucheass map with at least 10 Techpoints.

    Speaking of such a map.... a game of AvAvMvM would be also possible with it.. you know.. fighting against 3 eben< teans contemporaneously.
    Or just a strategy game where 4 playercommanders compete each other with botunits..

    I have to agree with Mahmutti.

    I can hardly imagine that, waiting to see if that Lerk leaping towards you has a blue belly before shooting will be very fun. Maybe you could see the name of the player above his head if he's an ally. This way: You see no name you pull the trigger.

    The game will support AvA and MvM matches afaik.
    So they have to build in two different collerscemes for every race.

    What is the amazing lerk leap upgrade and where do you find it for our flapping friends?


    On the topic: seems like a great mod idea - maybe post it over in that forum and see if anyones up for the challenge. This should be something that could be done before major release.

    so in a MvM or MAvMA (or any game that involves marines on opposite teams) how would power node ownership work? or subsequently, how would DI work with aliens on opposite teams?

    as a change of pace it would be nice to mix things up in this way but i dont think the gameplay would work.

    you obviously have not played these mods with NS1, they sucked so much, if i want humans vs humans i could go play counterst... dang.. i almost said it. and aliens vs aliens, and all mixing up between and tag teaming it just confusing and impossible to balance, even the res requirements are ridiculous

    Get JPs and HMGs as Marines to win!!!!

    But yeah, balance goes nutso in MvM and AvA not to mention the pain of several other aspects. Since a decent portion of the tech are setup to counter the other side, they become useless. Shotguns? When are you ever turning a corner to one-shot a Marine? Obs? Only for Motion-tracking (which becomes amazingly imba). Aliens have it worse with melee-vs-melee combat. Fade duels, while lolzy, were stupid.
