Just thought I'd say how happy I am that NS2 actually has a working dedicated server. I've been looking at the dedicated servers for some other recently released games.. and they suck.

While the NS2 server isn't perfect, it's about 100x better then dedicated servers from some AAAA level producers...

I'll second that opinion. The only thing holding it back is efficiency and performance, which we know the Wizard called Max will get under control. ;)

Well some of the big AAA titles actively shun dedis or make you rent them from the company who have ######d themselves out to the publisher.

Some AAA titles also say, "no, you have to play by peer 2 peer only".

What's the definition of AAA? If it lacks a dedicated server it's no AAA title in my opinion. (Excluding games where a dedicated server wouldn't makes sense of course)

I was using it to mean a very high budget, high publicity game. I'm not sure there's really any official definition on it.

I'd say it's: High budget, high publicity, developed in conjunction with a publisher.

well, it could have been Rainbow six vegas where you had to run a CD image just to launch a dedi server or the sequel vegas 2 and just not provide a dedi server. As with any UBI title your better off using a VPN unless you want to reconnect 5 times an hour.

My favorite dedi server and control panel to this date is still a toss up between black bag ops paired with BF42 and servermania paired with trackmania. We shall see if UWE can change my top pick.
