Compromise for emergency lighting

So there is this continual debate about whether emergency lighting should be darker or even non-existent; My personal thought is it should be darker for sure. However as a possible creative and immersive compromise, the infestation can cover lighting and as a result dim it way down. This way if the power goes out there is still reasonable backup lighting for marines, but if the marines let the aliens expand out and infest the room they have to use their flashlights and so on to make up for the increased darkness. This would help encourage both teams to continually be pushing outwards in order to insure they capture and control territory in order to have a home field advantage.

it would also help make gorges even more important.

    Great idea.

The colour definitely needs to be changed though, that flat red is hideous. Something with a more orangish tint perhaps. Or even allow mappers to specify the emergency lighting colour for each light. I'd love to see some purples and stuff, as well as variation depending on the part of the map.

I think it would also force flamethrowers to be used in different ways to just burning players and structures, which is good.

Ya. It would also make sense because of how light frequencies work. If you try and pass a red light through any type of green filter it literally completely blocks it. Try it with a projector. Of course it wouldn't be a complete blackout in game. Instead you would could have some glowing red areas on the infestation. This would help break the DI pattern of slimy green by giving areas of infestation some color contrast from the lighting that it is partially making its way through.
