Button mashing alien grabs

One thing that i think would make NS2 more exciting, is if skulks could grab onto marines when the leap. Or something of the sort, I'm at school and the idea just popped in my head.

Think of dead space and how the aliens grab onto you.

Elaborate for me haha..

Thanks,
Sk/unk

Makes sense through and through, but this ain't Left4Dead.

I never mentioned left4dead. Left4dead has no counter attack for the zombies that jump on you, it's also far to easy for the zombies to latch on. If NS2 had a feature where the aliens could only latch on by leading at certain angles, for example.. Marines would have to have their backs completely facing the alien, or their front completely facing the projected alien leap.

    Why? What for?

I suppose this is something "cool" to think about, but without a purpose, or any implementation detail whatsoever, I doubt you're going to get any sort of critical response.

That Dragon Ball Z Mod for Half Life and Quake 3 (I think) had something like that.
The game displayed arrows that you had to hit with your movement keys (think non animated stepmania/dance dance revolution) and who hit 51% right in a shorter timeframe bashed the oponent into the ground.
never worked to well for me though because those where almost translucent and i couldnt make them out against the bright background.

I can imagine that a rifle butt attack into the face of an attacking fade could trigger that.
if the fade wins, the marine is impaled, if the marine wins the fade gets a kick to his center of mass (the chest/stomach area) and send to the floor to either let the marine retreat or pump the alien full of lead.

cant see a way to have it work with skulks or lerks, much less gorges or onos.

Grabbing in shooter games is terrible, just look at the newest AvP game.

"Oh an alien used "instant" kill grapple on me, I guess I'm dea-"
    *Bang*
"Thank you marine nr2, you shot the alien while he was ###### around in a scripted animation scene"

And dont even say people locked in animation will be invulnerable to damage.

What if, the attack was changed to deal damage over time, rather than 100% damage after the delay?

Of course, the timing of the damage would not match the action in AVP. But a DoT grab attack might work on the Fade in NS2. It would be useful for disabling Exo-suit marines that the Fade would normally have trouble killing one-on-one, while using the marine as a meat shield. :P

No, but friendly fire would be enabled for both locked in the animation, regardless of server settings.
and while the hardcoded animation plays, they keep on circling each other.

have fun trying to kill one without incapitating the other.
