Just Started Playing, A Few Thoughts

Hey, longtime NS1 player from a way back. I pre-ordered NS2 a while back but I've only just got a computer that can run it (I am very poor). Played the beta for about an hour so far this evening and find myself enjoying it. Everyone I played with was pretty helpful given I was clearly being very special (I built hydras by accident on a res node, because hey, isn't that what Gorge's do?)
Had a few first impression type of thoughts that I thought might either be useful for the dev team or perhaps I'm just straight up wrong about. Also I am aware that beta is beta and everything is subject to change.
Firstly, I couldn't tell how many resources I had. I think it comes up on the scoreboard, but I couldn't understand why I had less than another player as the total didn't seem to go down after I evolved. I also couldn't tell how much it cost to evolve into any of the other forms. Presumably they are tech-locked via the commander, but I assume I also have a personal obligation to pay some juicy resources to evolve.
Secondly, infestation, I tried dropping it as a Gorge but it kept fading away, even when I tried to connect it to the main bulk joining the hive. Is this a bug or am I being a bit foolish?
Also, I had a weird bug when I first started playing that meant 'D' would move me left and 'W' moved me forwards. It fixed itself out after a restart, but just thought I'd mention that.
Also I haven't seen any real endgame yet, the only game I saw all the way through was a 2v2 (which I won by relying on the age old 'build a bunch of turrets next to their base and hide in them') and I haven't played much of the marine stuff yet, although I did get told to go pick up some ammo from the armoury and accidentally bought 3 identical assault rifles because I wasn't sure what I was doing.
All in all, seems pretty good, will keep playing for sure. Is there any particular place to find players though, or are the servers really that empty on monday evenings?

The cost of evolving into a gorge/lerk/fade is by all the pictures of the evolve menu, but I agree it's a little hard to figure out as it just has a star next to the numbers. For marines, it's a little more clear-cut as it shows your personal resources at the top when you open the armory and shows how much each weapon costs. I find it odd it lets you purchase rifles and pistols as you always have them, but whatever.
Gorge infestation disappears in 2 minutes regardless of where it is placed. This might change in the future. However, the infestation put down by the commander has influence over infinite hight. For example if you want to put a hydra on top of a box with commander infestation around it, you must first put down gorge infestation so there is a valid area to put the hydra. But once the hydra is placed and the gorge infestation decays away, the hydra will NOT take damage because the commander DI still supplies it, even though it's not physically connected. Hope that makes some sense.
Endgame for the aliens is certainly harder than marines. It takes a lot of supporting structures and a good combination of lerks/fades to win against an entrenched marine team. This should change in the future with the onos and other chamber abilities that we haven't seen yet.
This.... It happens to me too. I think its a problem when u first install the game. When i got this new pc and installed it that happened to me as well.
To everything else i really dont know. Im a noob too.
Playercount spikes right after a patch release and then drops to 1-2 full servers on average.
And afaik, isnt w supposed to take you forward? that d make you strafe left is odd tho.
The "total" res that didnt go down when you evolved, is not actually a "total" res, its the team resource, which means its the resource that commanders have exclusive right to use.
The res that players use is called personal res, and you can see it somewhere near your own ping on the scoreboard.

I hadn't realised quite so many upgrades were still absent, including the Onos? Wow. I mean, in NS1 I never saw a whole lot of Onos play anyway, only ended up in games that were dragging just to bring it to an end really.
Still not sure what Gorge Infestation is for if it's intentionally temporary, ceiling exploit aside of course.

Sorry, I meant to type that 'S' moved me forwards. Yes 'W' was also moving me forward as intended, so I guess I wasn't totally wrong.
I haven't noticed this actually, my resources seem to go down whenever I buy something (Weapon or evovle). I suggest posting it on GetSatisfaction if it is truely some sort of bug.

Gorge infestation 'shouldn't' fade away if it is connected to the main infestation. This is a bug which will most likely be fixed when more types of DI come out.

You are right, there isn't much endgame things (Yet), but I am sure there will be in the future. This is more of the matter 'time will tell'

I just join an empty server and you will most likely get people joining within about 5 minutes; if they don't then try this again on another server.
