Build 170 is out: update via Steam

Try different servers. A lot of lag issues are related to "bad" servers.
How good/bad is the performance when you create a LAN game in comparison to an online game?

tavarish, it is COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC to make games for that computer today.
get a midrange triple/quad core with midrange graphics, for a total of about €500-600, and you can play most games smoothly on higher settings.

x1300 ? LOL Sorry, but yeah, you need to upgrade if you want to play the beta. It might work for the final release, but don't bet on it.

If you are reading this UWE - we have this kind of thread every once in a while, and though they are sometimes a consequence of people buying on impulse, some of them must be caused by people trustingly checking the system requirements page before buying. Consider that people with these old rigs are usually also from non-english speaking countries and/or dont spend much time on the forum looking for realistic requirements.

I find the requirements page misleading - the required hardware according to it is abysmal, and realistically it is unfeasable and pointless to spend manpower to allow your game to be run on antiquities like that in 2011.

I very much support allowing a broad range of computers to run a game, to a certain extend, because it allows more people to play - look at Starcraft 2 for example. Having unrealistic, effectively wrong, requirements listed will only scare people away by bad word of mouth, and lead to these threads on the forum.

At least recommend minimum a dual core processor (not for the two cores, but for the newer tech), 1/2gb of ram and a geforce 8800 series or radeon 38xx series card - alternately a little lower minimum spec and a high recommended spec.
Another alternative: delete the system requirements altogether so people have to ask for an answer.
I don't think you can change much by just putting a big fat disclaimer on the page saying something like "higher specs needed, as this is beta", because the current reqs are simply unfeasable.

At least consider changing it often, as the game performance progresses. You already have the greatest progress info tool ever on your page, the other page could use some love

From my laptop I can barely run a LAN game with the settings at "Ridiculously Awful" due to framerate (NOT LATENCY). I get no more than 10 FPS when I'm standing still (800x600). Here are my specs:

Windows 7 Pro 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.00 GHz
2 GB RAM
DirectX 11
GeForce 8600M GT (~1GB)

I've got to use my ladies rig to play properly. Although not too far off from mine, her's runs NS2 beautifully at max settings (1920x1200). Here are her specs:

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.40 GHz
4GB RAM
DirectX 11
GeForce 8800 GTS (~2GB)

I have the same kind of FPS drops all the time.. :C sadly the game is unplayable to me hopes it gets fixed soon.
I have a pretty good rig so it should run buttersmooth
OS:Windows XP SP3 32-bit
RAM:4GB
Processor:Intel Duo Core 2,4GHz
Graphics:ATI Radeon 4850

My theory is that the game isn't so supportive for ati products yet??

*sadface*

anyhelp or info would be nice :)
I have the latest drivers
I have tried r_shadows false
I have tried creating local game
still my fps is 10-20
PS.
just wanted to add that the NS2 community is REALLY nice and helpful and hopefully when the game comes out it will stay that way :)

(sorry for bad english)

Hey just wanted to check and see if my system is of high enough quality to play this game. I won't be surprised if its not since its a super cheap laptop but anyways:
Windows Vista 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.00 GHz
Graphics: Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M with 128MB-1342MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
Ram: 2GB
Intel Pentium processor T3400 2.16GHz

I'm confused at the ability to have two similar but separate processors in your laptop...

aside from that your "media accelerator" will most likely not be up to the job.

That is very similar to my rig actually, only slightly better. Well better in terms of spec, but perhaps not in terms of hardware combo...

OS:Windows XP SP3 32-bit
RAM:2GB OCZ 800Mhz DDR2
Processor:Intel Core 2 Duo 2,16GHz (E6420 amazing Conroe core in the Core 2 Duo family, with 4Mb L2 cache instead of 2Mb)
Graphics:ATI Radeon 4850 512Mb Sapphire
Asus P5B Motherboard

And I get 35-60 with drops to 15 in the hive of Rockdown. Tram doesn't run too well though...

An x1300?

haha oh man, even when that was released (over 5 years ago), it wasn't meant for gaming, it's lowwwww end man.

Current UWE NS2 Minimum System Req:

CPU: 1.2 GHz Processor,
RAM: 256MB RAM,
GFX: DirectX 9 level graphics card
OS/Software: Windows Vista/2000/XP, Steam & internet connection

Most probable Minimum Specs, based on model/texture/game detail & build progression:

CPU: Dual-Core 1.86 GHz Processor,
RAM: 1GB RAM,
GFX: DirectX 9 level graphics card (256MB)
OS/Software: Windows XP/Vista/Win7, Steam & internet connection

Even if they optimise everything, unless you get down to NS1 detail level, the NS2 official minimum System requirements are about 10 years out of date for a game of this type.
