Most Current Events are Pointless to Pay Attention To
<div class="IPBDescription">Doesn't affect you and you can't affect it</div>Can someone explain what "the economy" is? Cause I don't exactly know and I don't think anyone except for a few guys with 5 PhDs and 2 decades of employment in the financial world.
Who cares about Lybia? Remember Egypt? I couldn't get away from it any time I was near a radio/TV/joe schmoes in public. Now no one talks a single word about it. Did it disappear? Soon we won't care about Lybia either. Just like Charlie Sheen or a kitten stuck in a pipe, everyone will talk about it for a week and then move on.
I am American and the only times I've ever voted I voted Republican so believe me I'm no libby or America-hater. But I really, really want a new terror attack that rivals 9/11 to happen. Maybe they will hit 5 or 6 different power grids at the same time, or a bunch of nuclear power sites. The more carnage, anarchy, and destruction of human life and property the better. Anyone else feel similar?

That's how wars get started you know.
Also, aleph, going for the trolling triple threat I see.
a) completely miss my point and refill it with your own wrong interpretation of what i said
b) get other people to reply to your watered-down version of what i said and make the conversation 100x more boring
Seriously though, try to explain to me what "The Economy" is. I hear this phrase NON STOP. I ask in the Socratic sense, because if you try to answer you will realize that you really have no idea at all.
OK so we had Egyptian revolution, Charlie Sheen, Japan, Libya............. I wonder what the next big topic will be.
What do you think it will be?
Shh, let them be. They'll find their way out.
A depression in the economy refers to a reduction in the amount of exchange occuring, which means less is being sold, less is being bought, and it becomes more costly and difficult to exchange things due to losing the economy of scale, when lots of exchange is occuring people can build huge ships and trains and roads to transport it with, and it becomes cheaper to move each item as a result, when less exchange is occuring, it is less efficient. The net effect is that stuff gets more expensive.
Leastways that is what I always thought it was, never paid much attention though.
One person says it in conversation thinkin the other person knows what they mean when they say it, but that person is thinking of something totally different. "The Economy" is a subjective concept with no basis in reality.
Although given the trouble I have with 'words that I read one time in a book and kind of figured out the meaning from the context but never actually looked it up so I am not quite sure and so I probably used it wrong in that sentence' I suppose it isn't impossible that some minor misunderstandings would occur.
Even with that though, 'the economy' is certainly not a subjective concept with no basis in reality. That's like saying the maxwell-boltzmann distribution isn't a real thing because most people who aren't chemists or physicists don't know what it is.
Besides, you did ask.
No one else does, unless you're a member of a terrorist group. May be if you have feelings such as that, you should seek out life in a cave in Pakistan.
Well there is some good news.
