Dedicated Server Question

I'm looking to setup a NS2 Beta Server closer to my location (Perth, Western Australia) for us around the area to give it a belt on a semi okay ping.
I've never setup a server before, I've looked at the NS2 Dedicated Server sticky thread, given it a read through. Now the hardware, I'm looking to rent a dedicated server, instead of setting one up at home (as internet not being the greatest) but being the first time, not sure what is needed.

I haven't asked the question to the places I've book marked yet, as I wanted to know peoples opinions.

They do game servers in their FAQ, I will ask them about NS2 also.
But my question is in that link, would the servers be powerful enough?

    I don't have any hard data to give, but its supposedly well known that VPS's aren't that great for game servers.

    A VPS shares its CPU with other VPSs on the same computer, so you may get poor performance compared to a dedicated computer just for you.

    There's also a few hosting companies in Aus (GA/3FL?) that can probably offer the (game server) for rental (not the whole server, though).

    Yeah true sharing the CPU (especially on beta) may slow it down a heap.
    I've tried GA and 3FL (Hypernia) both with no luck. :(

    Since there are currently way more servers than players that can fill them, you might want to hold off on adding another to the list. If you want to learn how to setup and run a dedicated server, try doing it on your current comp only while you're online so you can monitor your bandwidth.

    Good call, I will try this weekend to setup a dummy server and see how it goes.

    Please help me set up my server as well people. I will be hosting out of Ontario Canada.

    Specs for comp are:

    i7 950
    12gb ram
    ATI 6970 video card

    Rather beastly, so I'd really like to be able to help out and host a server.

    For whatever reason I can't host though (even when I put myself on DMZ through the router). If I don't open the server with the -port parameter it doesn't show up on the list. If I do, it shows up but nobody can join it.

    Help please!

    Yep, I have it all set up and it can run with the name specified etc. It's just something to do with ports, but I can't figure it out.
