If you're this overly concerned about monosyllabic words then what do you call a shotgun or the onos? Do you shorten the word upgrade? Call it something else if you want but requesting a name change throughout NS2 because the word is too long for you seems a bit much. This thread feels more at home in normal NS2 discussion.

People with learning difficulties generally don't use words like 'monosyllabic'. Just because I know fancy words doesn't mean I use them constantly.
Shotgun becomes shotty, onos is on's as you can contract the second syllable quite easily. All the other aliens have short names, skulk, lerk, crag, gorge, fade, hive, whip. Marine tech has short naming convetions too, sentry, arc, mac, cc/chair, flamer. gl (pronounced jeeyel) rifle, exo, jp etc etc.
It is a very noticeable, very consistent, and very good idea that all of the gameplay elements are one syllable words or have one syllable contractions. It is kind of silly that this one thing does not. The word doesn't even shorten propelly, the only things I can think of are pus'le or 'tule, both of which are kinda clunky contractions.
If you want something like pustule, change it to nodule, which naturally shortens to node, although personally I'd just call it a node to begin with.
