pod

<div class="IPBDescription">droppable gorge structure</div>The pod could be dropped by a gorge. It would be a completely passive structure in which an alien could hide. Alien teammates would be able to easily determine if a pod was occupied. However, this fact would be hidden from marines.

The pod would be:
- Approximately same cost as hydra
- Slightly bigger than a hydra (to make it believable that a skulk could be hiding in it)
- Medium build time (maybe 1.5x as much as hydra)
- Medium health (maybe 1.5x as much as a hydra)
- Limited to "small" aliens (skulk, gorge, and maybe lerk)

Ideas about what it could look like:
- Traditional spherical/oval shape (similar to crag) -- this is boring IMO
- Spikey (kind of like a puffer fish)
- A tentacle with a bulge in the middle
- Suspended fat "banana" with two supporting "legs" attaching it to the ground

So what is the point of this other than to give marines a sitting target to kill with ease?

One by itself sure...but what if a gorge places 3-4 in a room? They are the perfect hiding place for skulks. One or two marines start attacking one, and a skulk leaps out of another.

Admittedly, it needs to be tough enough to handle a few clips at least.

It'll good if the Skulk/Gorge/Lerk can cycle between nearby pods for the perfect ambush spot, according to the situation.

Ok. I'm going to hijack your post now. I apologize.

So how about this as an alternative.

Allow gorges to lay down mobile spawning eggs so aliens can, before they spawn, select an egg on the front line a gorge dropped and spawn there. It can also double as a "pod" by allowing current aliens to hide in it. To balance it you could just make it cost a little personal res for players to spawn in it, and make it cost all the gorges energy to lay one so he can't spam five in 10 seconds. I actually had this idea a while back, but I was to lazy to post it.

Aren't we getting cloaking? What more do you want, I don't understand.

I must agree with KuBaN on this one, i don't see a reason for this. Aliens already have great mobility, now also a chamber of some sort that they can "hide" in? wtf? i wouldn't even use them if they were in the game..
And forward spawn points? Is that REALLY needed for aliens? I don't think so

It's more fun if you have to use the map geography and cloaking abilities to hide. I do support the gorge getting more abilities however.

this idea is not so bad. finally we would get some sort of distress beacon for aliens :)
drop the egg for 5 res or so and the dead players are free to choose where to hatch (first avaible option one of those gorge eggs)

maybe uwe will come again to the conclusion that rounds last too long, and need more features which would accelerate end game.
that would be one option. bile bomb + forward spawn

Then i'd rather spend my res on hydras - which actually all do something when marines comes along.
