Parasite idea

<div class="IPBDescription">Use the outline of the models</div>As an idea for the future parasite;
I think using the outline of the models could be very useful gameplay wise.
That way aliens will be able to see if its a marine/mac/arc/specific building.
That way the skulks value will be higher throughout the game.
Standing on infestation should not do the same, but still alert the aliens like it does now.
Just my thoughts for the future parasite.

Sounds nice to me, as long as we're sure to make it just the marine outline and not say.. their weapon, it's a bit too much data then.

Is it? In competetive NS1 you would just say it on the voicecom; "Shotgun parasited"
This new way of getting the same data could have you focus on more important things.

Then just say it? It's hardly much strain to do so, just feels a bit much to get that much data for free nearly to me. It's not too hard to parasite I usually do it on approach anyways if I have the free energy.

It's still the same " free* " data, and it could reduce the things needed to say on the voicecom. As there are alot of important things to communicate about in a game like this one when it comes to competetive play. And if it doesn't show the weapon, what difference would there be, from when they walk on infestation?

    * It still requires that a skulk is scouting it.

Edit: And it can be countered with a single medpack.

since parasite can easily be removes in ns2, i am for giving an extra perk to it. being able to see an outline is a great idea. Just be sure to give it a maximum range.

Very much yes, especially if marines will get motiontracking in the future (or have already? I'm slightly outdated). The most unfair thing in NS1 was when marines went for early motiontracking and completely annihilated any attempts of skulk ambushes, it didn't matter if they saw which direction the aliens were facing really. For the aliens, it does matter, because they need to get in close and personal to do damage. Since marines can even remove parasites in NS2 I'd say it's perfectly fair to get the full spectrum of data from outlines.

Marines don't have motiontracking (yet? don't know if its planned). Scan should act as a temporary motiontracking/reveal on map in my opinion.

I am in full support of this.

    I like this idea.

On the motion tracking subject, I think it would be fine if it worked only in power areas, which now I'm going to post this in its own thread.

Why not just include it in the game? Why require players to use the clunky chat or own a mic? You can communicate it perfectly using game mechanics.

I say anything that would show up on the hivesight gets rendered like this (can be seen through geometry), but only while using Alien Vision. Entities that show up on Alien Vision could also be color-coded according to their health, providing additional information for certain enemies at the potential cost of being blind to some (that aren't parasited, or standing on infestation)

This would cause Alien Vision to be used more sparingly in less certain circumstances (farther from a Hive/Infestation), providing a natural territorial advantage for the Kharaa. It would also encourage more liberal parasiting, since the ideal circumstance would be to have all entities rendered in the more informative 'Alien Vision Mode'.

Thats an interesting option KuBaN, I really like the idea of color coding following health(kinda like L4D, but the NS2 way). And also the trade-off when using Alien Vision. At the moment I never take it off, it helps you spot everything better, and there is no limit to how much you can use it.
It would also cause skulks to use their parasite more often. As it becomes a even greater advantage to have all marines parasited.
I can already begin to imagine the fade whining about missing parasites as he gets blasted by non-parasited rines in Alien Vision mode :P But that just makes him a bad fade ^^
