<div class="IPBDescription">The inspiration for the NS universe.</div>What were the original inspirations for NS?
Be it from movies, comics, games and whatnot I'd love to know.
Also,
did any of the developers draw inspiration from games such as Gloom?
Gloom was one of the many reasons I really got into NS in the first place.

Awesome, thinking back on it you can really see where it made its way into the art and mapwork of the game.

Nope, although I also loved Amiga!
Gloom was a quake 2 mod,
In the game players joined one of two sides; aliens or humans.
Each team had individual defensive and offensive structures they could build with teleporters being the most important.
The teleporters allowed players to spawn in to the game, and once a team's teleporters were destroyed and their remaining teammates were killed the game was over.
Here's a vid of it,

You think that's old school.

But I can't find it right now.
That was some kind of survival mod right?
I think I played that with my friends a few years ago, had an absolutely brilliant time.
I never really got that NS vibe from it though.

Thanks!
This'll pre-occupy me for the time being.
I saw in a video he mentioned that he always like to play strategy based games and his friends always liked to play fps shooter games, So he thought of this great idea to make a game designed in a way they can all do both.
Thus rts and fps were combined to make natural selection.

Not the gameplay, but the atmosphere: Doom 3's atmosphere, environment and lighting is almost exactly the same as in NS2, which I really like, I hope it never changes.
and yeah, LMS is awesome, too bad only 4 people play it nowadays...
