Will it run?

Forgive me if it is blaringly obvious somewhere but I couldn't see it in the stickys. Will this run ns2 in an acceptable manner in it's current version?:

win7 x64
asus p5b motherboard
core 2 duo 6600
4gb ddr2 800mhz
8800 GTX card
2 seagate baracuda drives in raid 1

This computer is now over 4 years old and is barely used for any gaming..so not sure if buying a beta for a game that seems to have performance issues is the best idea I ever had.

Also is there many other UK players at the moment? providing the computer is capable of playing games still, provided the game doesnt crash, will there be anyone in this side of the world to play against just now?

Thank you in advance for all your kind responses!

let me rephrase the question since no one knows/wants to answer this.

If you think your computer is rubbish (and NS2 works well), please post your spec here so I can get an idea of what it will run on.

I find the official websites spec a little over generous...hmm..

    "A 1.2 GHz Processor (SSE2 required), 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows Vista/2000/XP"

i can't imagine a 1.2 gig cpu running this game either, even when fully optimized.

with your specs, I'd hold off for a bit. 4 gig of memory is good but your cpu and gpu are on the lower end of things.

as for regions, NA and Euro players play together for the most part as of now.

Actually NS2 is playable with an 8800GTX, i had one myself until patch ~B170.

I think the real question is will it blend?

    But yes, it will.
I can run NS2 on its highest settings with my laptop.

I think the correct phrasing instead of " a little over generous" is "blatently incorrect".

Maybe, would be better if you can get your 2.4ghz up to 2.8-3 on stable overclock but yeah give it a try. I heard that NS2 doesn't take advantage of multiple cores so having a duo core doesn't hurt that much... if that's all you're doing.

This is how build178 runs on my pc, which is indeed quite similar to your rig:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEWSsNh3vqI 11/12 players on summit, in between 20 and 30 fps (client tickrate in between 24 and 28)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ81kEcenvM showcase on my own map localhost, in between 22 and 33 FPS

    [edit]
My specs are on the video and on my YT channel description

In reply to your spec, yes it will run on that, fairly decently. Expect about 30fps+
