DI, so really, when is the real stuff coming?

So I think it's probably about time we had an actual estimate on the time scale for full scale dynamic infestation. We've made do with this sloppy 2D low resolution texture for a while now. All I seem to see is silly little graphical updates, very small performance updates, and only very recently a slight shift in gameplay updates, which are probably the lowest priority of this unfinished game.
DI was the flagship advertisement campaign for NS2, as were dynamic environments which are less than promising; just cutting off the power in one room from a power node. It would be nice to have an honest reply, if you don't know when DI is honestly going to reach any sort of full scale implementation, I'd rather just see a community discussion around it.
Any ideas, anyone?

it is not clear what ur asking, can u rephrase the question?
Like I said, your question was not clear.
Ex.
1) Infestation should never stop growing, dynamically altering the environment on its own (albeit slowly)
2) Pustules and Hives rapidly expand infestation to a certain range, then DI slowly grows outward (and fill in gaps, like the space around a tendril)
3) Slight variation in thickness for added atmosphere
If you've followed NS2 for a long time you will know the current implementation of dynamic infestation is temporary. "When is the real stuff coming?", refers to the 3D infestation which should come off the floor, spread along walls, possibly even ceilings, that's how DI was initially sold. As a real changing environment, not as a texture based supporting feature.
I apologise that some newer comers may not realise this and may not understand the initial question. I suggest you go back in time and view the original DI in an early pre-Spark engine BSP environment to see the initial expectation to be the foundations for fully fledged DI, below,

Time travel aside, I am familiar with the proof-of-concept Croach they did. Surely you aren't asking the community what UW's plans are? How are we supposed to know? You asked the community for discussion about the future of Croach, so how was my post not addressing what you asked? I think the future of Croach, in NS2 1.0 at least, is going to look a lot like what I described.
Secondly, you need to read more carefully before replying to something and making very little sense.
Some more info on Infestation would be nice to have indeed...

Croach is perfect, UW deserves kudos for coming up with it, and you need to phrase your posts more carefully if you're going to ask questions and not get touchy when people don't understand exactly whatever you meant to write and failed to communicate properly.
Okay firstly, croach doesn't exist as a word. It's made up by UWE. Secondly it's far from perfect. Type it in to google and it thinks you mis-spelled crotch. Secondly croatch sounds nothing like infestation. Infestation looks gooey, you'd expect it to be soft and tissuey, the sounds associated with it are spongy and soft. Croach is a sharp word, with a crunching 'ch'. It has no connotation, connection or phonetic association in any form to it's actual meaning. It's about as perfect as the grammar in this reply.

Neither does "Onos," "Kharaa," "Lerk," but nobody ever said that was a problem. Google will autocorrect those words as well, uh oh, better change them!

"Infest" is a hard word, with a sharp 'T'. Come on, what kind of ridiculous criteria is that?
But seriously, there's already a thread for Croach discussion, so why are you derailing your own thread here?
At the risk of further derailing this thread, I second this phonetic analysis.

Infest has a "T", but it's hardly sharp; the "ess" before it makes it more of an addition than a defining feature, and the fact that it is not emphasized and is at the end of the word, rather than at the start, gives it lower phonetic priority.

So for now, until said otherwise, we can wait for full Croach to be implemented. It works in-game as a game mechanic, and for a beta that's all we need.

Nice passive aggression. I'll make due to make a complaint for a trolling post, would be nice to see that snipped.
I'm pretty good at this word stuff though.

Please stop telling people which words to use, as they have every right to use whatever they want.
Secondly, like he's said about 3 times your original post was highly unclear. And you seriously wonder why your threads digress so quickly?

Expectations are bad for you. They invite disappointment.
Who can say when it will be done? Community can't. If the Devs could, I imagine they would have already. So what's the point of this thread exactly?
Point one: Has UWE officially named it Croach or merely suggested it? As far as I can tell it was briefly asked as a question and has spread like wildfire.
Point zwei: Technically, the DI mechanic is implemented; its dynamic and its infestation. If people call it DI ingame it sounds a bit silly, as its a technical explanation for how the infestation works, not a key word used to describe a kharaa ability. "Infestation Creep" anyone?
C-C-Combo
point 2+1: Decals stretching across a surface does look a bit silly and bodged, but it works for the time being. I have a feeling it'll slowly progress towards the goal look/feel, especially how the mechanics are going to change soon (pustules, nipples, whatever you want to call them).
Oh, and +1 for against Croach, Grout, Bogeys or any other silly sounding name.
I don't understand why this statement was made though, it was quite easy to read and understand... It looked to me as some weird attempt to troll the thread.
Which sadly succeeded...

It's catching on people!
Yes. The "pre-spark BSP environment", around then I believe Spark was unnnamed and obviously at that point it ran a BSP level with different tech to date. At least, that's what has been claimed 2009ish onwards. As of 2006 and in the video it does say in Source. Judging on UWE's past announcements and honest replies to hot topics and development, it's hard on what and who to trust.
Which actually begs the question, if it was done so well on such an early version of the engine, why has that prototype not even graced the game to date? Why are we left with a 2D ugly looking unrealistic and rather unglorified feature, if such a thing were to be ready in a prototype stage so early on?

The only suggestion I can add to this is to read posts thoroughly, if you can't understand my posts I suggest you brush up your reading comprehension. I say this because I'm not being cryptic or avoiding any point in a post, I'm being informative and descriptive and using all tools available to me, so much so even non-English speakers like Kouji can find it simple to understand.
The one on the bottom right might use the same map file as far as I can tell...
