Why not make the scoreboard text and map a bit bigger?

MagnetoMagneto Join Date: 2010-12-22 Member: 75856Members
<div class="IPBDescription">Plus other improvements...</div>Im finding these a bit small at 1080p, scoreboard text could be a bit bigger and the map should take up much more of the screen.

Also is the game still using flash menus because in case the devs didn't know someone has already created a non flash menu and improved chat box, its much better, check it out...

Oh also as performance has improved a lot recently, when will we be able to turn on Anti-Aliasing?

I suspect the current sizing is based on small resolutions (e.g. 640x480). However, it would be nice to be able to rescale it for larger resolutions. Automatically would be best, but being able to change it in the options would also work.

Scoreboard is actually too large on a 20player server when playing on 1280x720. It should dynamically resize IMHO based on the res you're using...

I was also kinda hoping that when the game ends and the players are in the ready room, the scores do not get wiped and show the results of the previous game so that you can see who is the best players etc.

Will we get a minimap on the hud?

    Bigger map? Yes please!
For players as well as the commander, You need a magnifying glass to read the commanders map on bigger resolutions right now...

is there anykind of way to bring up a bigger minimap, would be nice when learning maps. Maybe an overlay...

They did implemented a really clunky scaling system in build 178 but it pretty terrible they just wrap sizes and positions in a UIScale() call. The UI Frames do have a SetScale function but thats just as pants as well because it doesn't really adjust the position of stuff

I just bumped up the minimap size. Changing the scoreboard will be more work.

Not sure about a marine minimap but we'll probably add that before v1.0. One of our goals was to not have a minimap, so we'd be forced to make the levels easy enough to navigate visually, but there's too much other strategic info on there to omit it.

Also could there be (later) a choicie in the menu to have the minimap to rotate around the player, so that the top of the map is always what is in front of the player? It might be because i'm used to it in other FPS but I find it easier to know where you are heading this way =O or at least, highlight the player's position a bit more, cause I have trouble finding him when openning the minimap =S

Thanks, i find it's often the small details which make a difference, im not sure myself we really need an always on hud minimap, it could be good but we can live without it.

Any idea when we might start seeing more improvements to the menus and stuff like that?

A lot of it may not be that important but it's simple enough i suspect that someone could do it in their spare time, things like a disconnect button, improved chat box, double click to connect to server and all sorts of other little improvements like that, would also be nice to have automatic map downloading, server map rotation and so on.

I would love if the minimap was actually togglable, like the evolve menu, and instead of positioned smack in the middle of your screen, it would be against the left or right edge of your screen.

As apparent from a 1920x1200 screenshot, there would be plenty of space to situate it to the left or right.

<div align='center'>It'd better not be bigger then my screen on 720p, like the scoreboard for instance. Or else there will be unforeseen consequences, cookie related incidents might occur!

<strike>Hi devs, please add a DpiX() function to lua. I need it to consistently scale fonts with resolution across different monitor types. Or i could could assume everyone has 96 or 120 dpi.</strike>

Nvm. It's best to scale by point size. At least that guarantees readability :P

Have the devs checked out <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=113246" target="_blank">fsfod's non flash menu</a> yet?

It does seem to load a little quicker and the improvements are good, i thought the plan was to scrap flash once and for all, so i don't get why they've been holding on to it for so long when most of the other in game stuff was changed ages ago?

We have been working on a non flash and revamped version of the main menu for some time now. Its not as high of a priority as many of the other things in the game just yet, so we haven't devoted our full attention to it, but it is coming along.
