Currently, infesation requires energy to keep going. There's really no way to boost your energy at this time. How about we make it so that infestation can consume organic matter (marine and alien corpses) and give some energy to the commander?
Skulks don't cost energy so someone could keep typing kill in console to boost the infestation growth.
I was thinking more like the energy from the extractors (that is currently being used for nothing) should be piped back into the hives energy.. I think I posted this somewhere else already. The problem with this though is that the game isn't fully developed yet so there might be other uses.. I'm waiting until all the tech is mapped before I start making suggestions on what could possibly be changed.
Also, marines have the ability to recycle currently, so they even get res (even though a small amount) for breaking their own structures. Aliens don't have anything like this yet and so they are forced to defend res towers more, giving the marines something to bait. If aliens were able to recycle res towers for half res + energy to the hive.. they would be able to have their aliens focus less on defense and more on eradicating the troops pushing, and then buy a new drifter for a new RT with the recycled res they obtained, and it would be a little more balanced. When new-player-aliens see a res tower outside the hive being attacked they usually all pile in 1 by 1 and get pretty owned because they go to the tower (for whatever reason) and there's usually a sentry gun if not like 3 marines just waiting for exactly that.

I like this, the cool light effect between the cysts could be energy being transported.
Well the original idea could work if you just didn't include the skulk as an absorbable corpse or just limit it to marine bodies.
Edit: the reason could be the skulk isn't quite enough mass to bring a net energy gain to the hive but anything a bit larger is: the fatty gorge shall supply us for years!
