I frequently see people stop comming during the NS2 end game (when all, or nearly all, tech is researched and most of the tech/res nodes have been captured), when I personally find that their are still many things the comm can do. In particular,
On marines
- Drop ammo/med packs
- Repair damaged structures
- Push with ARCs/sentries/PG/armories/other structures
- Further entrench locations
On aliens
- Expand or rebuild cyst chains
- Build forward crag/whip clusters
- Build up defenses
I can understand how in some parts of a match, having an extra player on the ground can help more than having a comm, but I feel that players stop comming way before its useful to do so. Are there any other benefits of not comming in the end game that I'm missing? Maybe people who do stop comming can give the reasons they do so?

Nobody in right mind ever goes in there since its frustrating to see the very little strategy you can do only to get screwed by your own teammate.

I preferred alien commander to most other parts of the game pre 180 actually.
Playing as fade was OK too I guess, but commanding was easily the most reliably enjoyable role in the game.
Marine commander is kind of annoying as you need marines to do everything for you, but if you have a team that listens you can do an awful lot with marine comm.
lol...

I prefer alien commanding, the only thing I hate is spreading infestation, I wish it actually would spread on its own.
as for end game commanding for marines, its mostly based on building more and more turrets. its really annoying, and boring.
You are doing something very wrong if all you do is build turrets.
is a working strategy.
It's like the marine's version of infestation.
I meant it in the actual term for infestation, and how it tends to cover the map in it's death. Sorry for the confusion.

It isn't a very good one though, using groups of marines supported by phase gates, armories, MACs and ARCs is a far more effective one that works in any situation.
