slowdown while firing?

anyone else have the game slow to a crawl when firing the smg on full auto? also, anyone think they might know why im gettin this problem? gfx are set to lowest available setting, everything else is default

    I get this a lot, again, in b181.

    It's really disappointing, I don't think the dev team appreciate the severity.

    For example, this patch looks fantastic, but having just played a game for 30 minutes I've had to quit because its too frustrating.

    Skulks come up behind me, I hear them, then I freeze and am dead.

    I see a skulk charging me so I shoot it, only to stutter and then be dead.

    I've had this for a couple of builds now. The stutter makes it impossible to aim and I've pretty much given up playing as marines. One of the absolutely worst bugs in existance right now imho and this really, REALLY needs to be fixed.

    Sigh, do some searching. Just edit out the muzzle flash in your LUA game files.

    Sigh all you want, I did search every single one of the numerous threads about this issue on getsatisfaction which, I think you'd agree is the premier site to give and get information about bugs, and the solution you talk about isn't mentioned anywhere. This forum doesn't even have a dedicated bug forum since it's all handled through getsatisfaction so don't blame me if I don't do an extensive search here as well. Especially since I get a IPS driver error when I try to use the search function.

    In either case it's a workaround and not a real solution, and thus still needs to be fixed. While this is a beta this bug has been around for a looong time and we shouldn't really have to edit out things in the LUA code by ourselves to fix them.

    the forum search function kept giving errors. once you mentioned removing muzzleflash, i did that, as per the LUA someone on this forum had done.

    now, NO attacks have any animations OR sounds, and have a full second delay before 'firing' x_x

    Yes, I guess everybody get it more or less and that's obviously a problem, because it affects balance and is quite unpleasant.

    i was playing little bit with MarineWeaponEffects.lua and (for me at least) the smoke effect
    causes the biggest FPS drop but is almost invisible.

    Hence the reason I only remove the smokey thing. That and I want mah flaming nozzle!

    If it's simple graphic stuff like that they should look at it asap, because it really change balance, it's not easy to shoot a laggy lerk.

    If it's this easy to fix I don't understand why they don't spend 5 seconds to take this code out until they can fix smoke properly :P.

    They said somewhere (Cory or Charlie) that the cinematic code has not yet been optimized. But yeah, as long as this is the case, disabling the smoke FX by commenting it out for now seems like the way to go. Not everyone knows or wants to dare treading into Lua related files of NS2 :/

    I'm guessing the smoke is really faint but hangs around for a long time, causing massive amounts of overdraw, which is the bane of particle effects everywhere.
