Simple Dot Crosshairs
The simple dot crosshairs are now available on the steam workshop:
Simple dot crosshair (without melee crosshairs): <a href="http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=99874752" target="_blank">http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/file...ls/?id=99874752</a>
Simple dot crosshair with melee crosshairs: <a href="http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=99884723" target="_blank">http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/file...ls/?id=99884723</a>
Subscribing to these mods through the workshop will insure that you can access all servers and the default crosshairs will be used on any servers that block them. I will leave the old files up for anyone who wants to use them.
[EDIT] UPDATE 3: As of build 201 these crosshairs will no longer work correctly. You can still use them but the hit indicators won't show up.
Here is the classic white dot with red hit indicator, fixed for build 201: <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?6b06rhj5p8ibpie" target="_blank">http://www.mediafire.com/?6b06rhj5p8ibpie</a>
Copy both files to naturalsecltion2/ns2/ui/

[EDIT] UPDATE 2: Here's my favourite one (white dot that goes red on hit): <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?dcp3is3wyoj2wlc" target="_blank">http://www.mediafire.com/?dcp3is3wyoj2wlc</a>
UPDATE: More crosshairs now available, see 2 posts below :)
Hey, I created a few simple dot crosshairs and thought I would share them here.
Here's what they look like:
<img src="http://i.imgur.com/6e2V8.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
I made them change colour on a successful hit rather than having lines come up. If you have any problems with them please post here or PM me and I'll try and fix it as best I can. Also, if you would like to see any changes made then post here and if I have the time I might make more.
Thanks to oma for making his custom crosshairs and giving me the idea :)

I would be interested in seeing how to build it, eventually I will be adding my own textures to the game for my map :).

I changed a few things since my last post. I removed the crosshair for melee weapons as I felt it was distracting when playing skulk and wasn't really necessary. I also added in a small black outline to make them stand out better on light backgrounds.
There are two versions of each. One that changes colour on a successful hit and one that doesn't. See the readme for install instructions.

Enjoy.

Yeah, the stock ones are actually quite good. I've been using them myself lately as I verified my steam cache files and it restored them (worth noting that you can do this if you accidentally overwrite your crosshairs.dds file).
I just have a quick question: is there a way to change the color upon a successful hit?
I'm using the white cross and cyan is still hard for me to distinguish from white in combat.
I thought pink or red would work better so I was wondering if there is a way.
Thank you!

I made a few adjustments quickly, here you go: <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?qvjiv0unr90e1f5" target="_blank">http://www.mediafire.com/?qvjiv0unr90e1f5</a>
Just to clarify, the white cross currently changes to yellow. It's only the white dots that change to cyan.

Thank you very much!! I think I will stick to this crosshair for a loooong time!
Here's the one I'm using right now (white dot that goes red on hit): <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?dcp3is3wyoj2wlc" target="_blank">http://www.mediafire.com/?dcp3is3wyoj2wlc</a>

This should be implemented with the new non flash menu! Customize crosshair!
You'd need to edit the default .dds file with photoshop + the dds plugin from nvidia. I had some difficulty editing the defult crosshairs and then saving them again. Perhaps someone else will quickly edit it for you.
I was just wondering if you could make the white dot cyan, with a little transparency on it? I'd like to use it in my mod, but would like it a little transparent if you could make it?
Here you go: <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?synn3ukei9wkhp1" target="_blank">http://www.mediafire.com/?synn3ukei9wkhp1</a>
For others wanting custom changes, don't forget I posted a tutorial here: <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=114660&pid=1869839&st=0&#entry1869839" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...p;#entry1869839</a>
I will try and fulfil custom requests if I can but as long as you know basic photoshop skills then you should be able to create any crosshair you desire.

Here it is with 70% opacity: <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?z0vm2hncbx9sscw" target="_blank">http://www.mediafire.com/?z0vm2hncbx9sscw</a>
I've just discovered I can use paint.NET to edit .dds files :P Found out while fixing up the marine buy menu in my mod, W00t! Shame I don't even have basic skills in using it :)
Once again, thanks a lot for your kind help :)

Crosshair, Crosshair with Hit, Hit without Crosshair
You'd have to go poking around in .lua files to get those to show up, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm looking for....crosshairs that show up all the time as aliens (like for fade/skulk/onos etc...stuff with melee attacks that don't normally have crosshairs). Do you remember which .lua file you need to edit by chance?
So if you want to have crosshairs in all Alien classes, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ns2\lua and find <!--coloro:#FFA500--><span style="color:#FFA500"><!--/coloro-->Player_Client.lua<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> . Find line 319 (it's easier just to search for "alien" in lower cases, will take you to within a few lines of it) and do <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/Drakuu/aliencrosshairs.jpg" target="_blank">this</a>. In the end "index = 9" should change to "index = 0" .
Be sure to make a backup first though.
