discuss, choose
Actually, I love to see some structures or dead bodies of aliens that just cut down being able to be kicked by marines, such a great engine. And it's out of question that destroyed marine machines look also really good.
But don't you think that it's a bit awkward to see those destroyed structures or debris that just soon be disappeared? It doesn't make any excuses for such a great engine of NS2.
So I think it's kinda important to have some right way and graphical effects of getting rid of ragdolls that dead, to make them not just simply and suddenly disappear like now.

These are some of my ideas about the way of dead ragdolls to disappear.

for alien structures (my ideas) :

1. Hive should definately be exploded with stinky liquids(and some damages to players or things nearby) just few seconds after his death.
2. It won't be that awkward but much better if dead Crag suddenly disappears popping just with giving his last umbra,
3. Leaning Whip that just died will gonna be look great if it melts to the ground as he leans.

for alien player ragdolls (discuss!) :

1. Explode, after death
2. Automatically hardened like pupa and crushed down, after death
3. Just be buried into the plasitc ground like NS1
4. Melt

for marine structures machines (my idea) :

1. To explode with a little effect would gonna be good enough. Still fantastic to see some remaining debrises
2. To disappear just like the way how they appears, some blue squares that moves up and down

for marine player ragdolls (my idea!) :

1. To disappear as if he teleports, just like the emergency bell of NS1, or just with those covers, blue squares that I just mentioned.
Summarize : Dead - Disappears with some blue-effects that makes the dead body look like being teleported to somewhere.

What do you think? I don't expect you to agree with all of my ideas, but my suggestion that those ragdolls of dead bodies and structures should be disappeared with suitable and right ways.

    1. No, splash damage is a stupid idea.
    2. No, I wouldn't expect the crag to pop, I would expect the shell to break and the insides to shrivel.
    3. I would like to see the whip gib when it's hit by axe/shotgun/grenade or otherwise just die as it does now for rifle/pistol/flame

    1. No. Except Gorge.
    2. What?
    3. No.
    4. Decompose maybe, but it's really not important.

    1. It already does?
    2. I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of "nano-bot decomposition". No waste.

    1. Maybe, but again, not really important.

Doom3 disintegrate effect did a fine job. perhaps make it a nanity or bacterium effect, depending on area (Infested or Nanite Infested (clean))

crag: shell smashes and insides melt
whip: spasses out in a final flurry
    hive: explodes in a pop

Although cool looking death particle and physics effects would be awesome to have, UWE simply can't afford to add them until the game is released. We're still yet to see the models of core game elements such as the Shift, Shade, Exo-suit created and animated. Until then, we can only dream about decomposing effects.

How to get rid of dead bodies? Whatever you do, don't bury it in your own backyard! But I do hear those Gorges are always hungry...

I would like the bodies to stay a bit longer than they do.. I agree with OP one of the first things I noticed when playing was that the bodies disappear too quickly. As for an animation.. I don't really care all too much.. would be cool if there was some convulsing of sorts depending on how the thing died.. like just activate the ragdoll's bones to spaz in some cool dying way (neck cramping, arms stiffening, etc)

When nobody is looking or after a minute or two, whichever comes first.

instead of ploping away (its a peformence thing i guess) the ragdoll should sucked into the surface (you know, just move down into the ground like in quicksand)

lol! The first thing that came to mind when I read the title was this?

Also, while the current player/structure death animations aren't great, they are at least passable. This is one of those polish issues that I don't see happening until right before or after the v1.0 release.

It would be awesome if the bodies just stayed... imagine how creepy it would be to see a pile of dead marines in the doorway to a hive-room, with a bunch of hydras growing out of it.

Man did this thread title sound awful at first glance, how many did you kill? and should I be afraid?

As for the game, I'd love to have a decompose/ nanite-deconstruction effect eventually, but yeah it's hardly a necessity for now.
