They didn't get permissions for many assets at all in the end, and I understand the code base was a mess due to the changes in direction (so much so they pretty much redid it from scratch). If you like what you see in Nuclear Dawn, by far the larger chunk of the credit should go to the people who took the IP and got it to release.
