Marine Comm Frustration

I'm noticing a new trend lately. Marine comms that recycle everything in the Marine base the second the first Fade appears or just refuse to build/do anything to end the game. Played several games this weekend and this happened quite a few times. A fade appears and the comm instantly says "GG" and recycles, basically giving up the game and without giving the rest of the team a say in the matter. Two of us in one game managed to sneak round to Alien Start and were taking out the hive. We had a beacon and seemed to be doing well. Next thing I read on team chat is that there is a fade in Marine base then game over. I ask what the hell happened in the ready room to be told the comm recycled the IP's, armoury and everything else to finish the game as the Aliens had a second hive. I have seen a marine Team win even when Aliens have 3/4 hives and folk are just giving up too easily.

I had two games where the marine comm wouldn't even make an IP in the first place and the game lasted only a few minutes. He managed to get comm again next round and did exactly the same thing. We all felt he was just griefing the server and myself and a few others just joined a different server.

Marines need a good comm to have a decent chance to win and the sort of attitude I have described is sort of spoiling the game for those of us who want to fight till the last even if others think its hopeless.

Cheers

Sal

And what is your point for creating this thread besides venting?

Trolls and griefers can only be stopped by an admin or to some extend by a votekick commander...

I can't say I blame them. The only way marines can win once fades are up is to build loads of sentries and slowly drag the game out. I'd much prefer to start a new game than to sit in a stalemate situation for hours. I'm glad I haven't seen too many sentry farms lately, people seem to have realized that it just creates a boring game.

My point is that the game is not lost just because the Aliens have two hives. I don't command as I admit I couldn't do it justice. All I am asking, is for players who do command that they give the game the chance to see what happens, rather than just giving up against the wishes of the other players. Voting the comm off never seems to work and admins cant be on the servers 24/7.

Vent? No, I am posting my opinion, as is my right, on the forum in the hope some players may think twice about ending a game because they think its a hopeless situation. I am also posting to show that it could also be open to the type of player who takes advantage of the comm position, to ruin the game for those of us who want to enjoy it.

    Cheers

I wasn't attacking your post if that is what you think :) Your points (and I did detect some venting in your post :P) are indeed valid, but if these recyclers are of the race of trolls or griefers, only admin powers and voting against them can stop them. They were also present in NS, it's not something new... The commchair (as it was called back then :P) is just a big juicy target for these fiends

I for one come from a breed of gamers that likes to win of course and will try to push to win if at all possible. But if things don't go my teams way, I will fight to the end and never give up. Not all players tend to like to be on the losing team, but I've found NS and some other games are quite rewarding, even when you're losing. Getting it up to a point where you can make a comeback, that is (with some new balancing) quite the stuff of dreams I want from a game. Current balance is not quite up to par yet...

No problem, I have had a few frustrating games this weekend and hoped that posting would make some marine comms think twice that's all. I don't vent. I'm too old and laid back for all that :)

I've been gaming since the days of pong and I have come across many games where griefers and trolls have totally spoilt them. I used to play Red Orchestra a lot and one player in particular made that game hell for a few months. He would join a team and team kill constantly or stand in a doorway of the spawn exit so players couldn't get out. He eventually got bored and prob moved on to annoy another set of gamers. Its an unfortunate fact of life that these type of players will always be around.

I am not that competitive and just like a good fair game....win or lose.

    Cheers

Would be cool if there would be "Commander Recommodation Points" related to the Steamaccount. So if one liked you as Com, he gives you a +1 vice versa.
Maybe some Modder takes the challenge and works out a server side system to check for the player and show his gaming awards ingame.

Above the player model would be Stars that show the earnings on this server or something.

I was playing yesterday on an austrian NS2 server as Com and had that placement bug. After a while there were 4 fades and unbalanced Teams but we still managed to build a second base and kill a hive before we died in a last stand. It was hilarious and that's one of the things I love about the beta. When playing 1.0 you'll remember how funny the unfinished stuff was.

I've never seen a comm recycle without asking first, like "ok we lost, should I recycle?". In general I'm not against early gg when the game is clearly lost.

But otherwise, yes we need some admin, kickvote stuff.

Marine comm-ing will never be fun in pubs unless you have a team of players that understand NS extremely well. It also doesn't help that 90% of the time is spent trying to actually drop anything and everything.

Alien comm-ing is just super easy. However, you still suffered from the build bugs...

next time aliens are going to to lose they just have to tell the marines "guys...we could do fades now, but we are way to lazy to actually evolve to them . you can end it now, and recycle the base"

theres no point in actually going fade if games end like that. this recycle marine ability is totaly imba,

aliens cant recycle their hive when the marines come with WTFlameswords and nades and macs, they have to watch while getting their butts raped sideways

Yup, mass rr can do it, though good luck getting the whole team in a pub to all do it.

omg i forgot the sarcasm flag

"rr-ing" is not the same as recycling the base even if the majority of marines still wants to fight.

thats what i meant.. aliens dont realy have a abusable game breaking ability usable by ONE person to end the fun for all aliens, thats so imbalanced (sarcasm thar, see what i did?)..
