The HUD will be getting a visual overhaul, and, while we still want to keep it more on the minimal side, we will be displaying more information on it, such as P res and T res. It is still in the early stages of mock ups, though, so don't expect a revised HUD very soon.

    +1!!!!!!!!!
I have been very sad on the weak sauce HUD for commanding and classes since Alpha. With an amazing artist like yourself, I expected a really unique and dynamic HUD a year into the game development.

I sure hope you guys think outside the box and really make it amazing (which I know you are 100% capable of doing).

In a game like Hawken , that 'hud' is to be expected as it reinforces the effect of you piloting a machine... it may be more efficient without the hud in that game but it wont have the same feel... it would just have weapon effects coming out the sides of your vision.

In NS 2 though a more minimalistic HUD is more the norm I would think... a organic one for the Kharaa and a high tech transparent one for the Frontiersmen.

That armory is way too spot on, definitely a copy, the T-rex in the carnage game though.. not really I'd say. I mean it's a T-rex, they kinda have look like the same species, even then they look plenty different (different color, head shape, one is generally bulkier).

It was unfortunate that I donated to that ORION game before realising the truth behind it. One donation I regret a lot, unfortunately, nothing I can do about it now. Definitely stolen though. Definitely, I wonder if UWE can do anything about it?

@SpiralGames Why have you stolen @NS2 's Armoury Model? It's clearly identical to yours in your pre-alpha footage....

It's much lower poly. It's clear to see. It also has a different side panel, the monitor light alignments are different, the opening out arms have a different texture and the feet are larger.

It is extremely similar on the border of plagiarism however it's not a direct rip from the game. It looks to have been built from scratch, due to its much lower poly nature which can be easily seen via the pipes and the leg stand.

Hawken gameplay - got every useless visual crap there is... (Imagine playing this on a 15'' monitor - you end up with ~ 10'' actuall view of the world)

While it looks cool in videos or screenshots - its wasting nearly 50% of our small little 2d window into the gamewold (monitor) and also makes some ppl motion sick...

I dont understand how ppl could want this useless visual eyecandy, and hope uwe stays with its minimalist style.

I bet that is what the E.X.O will look like! I wish!

There should also be a toggleable screen showing the tech tree, what's already unlocked and what's currently being researched. ...

Holy crap, I couldn't agree more!

    This. This. This!

Anyone played the Nuclear Dawn beta? They add curverture to the HUD elements. Real simple effect but makes you think "eeeeyyy this is imprinted on a visor, cool!".

I said it years back, but the HUD from Republic Commandos was frickin' sweet.

We actually wanted to add curvature to the HUD a few years back, when first designing the marine HUD. But, at the time we were using the free game version of flash, and were unable to do it the way we wanted, due to all the limitations with it. Now, the way we are doing the UI it should be more doable and we are hoping to add that curvature when we do a new pass on the HUD. Unfortunately in the time since we originally planned to do it that way, every single sci fi FPS game that has come out pretty much does the same thing: Crysis 2, Deus Ex, Nuclear Dawn, the list goes on. Its almost a requirement to have that now.

Not sure why you used the word unfortunately - as if that somehow means that the lack of originality deems it unusable.

It adds immersion, and is a visual representation of what it would look like if you were suited up anyhow.

Looking forward to seeing it implemented if you choose to do it.
