Right now there's a build limit around 25 for a certain area (radius). However this build limit does take into account any entity that is inside the radius.

As a commander (alien or marine) your build limit is affected by hives, power nodes, eggs, (mini-)cysts, hydras, marine structures (incl. CC), ARCs, MACs, Drifters,... Maybe even (enemy) players? (I couldn't test if players affect it as well on LAN).

Gorges are able to circumvent the build limit with their structures, however both commanders limits are affected by gorge buildings. This leads to commanders being unable to build in huge parts of the map if there are lots of mini cysts around.

In my opinion there should be separate build limits for each commander and another one for gorges.


The marine commanders limit should only be affected by marine structures (NOT power nodes, CCs, extractors).

The alien commanders limit should only be affected by alien structures (NOT power nodes, hives, cysts, mini cysts, hydras, harvesters).

The gorges limit should only be affected by hydras (NOT mini cysts).


There should be no limit on cysts or mini cysts since they are expensive to build and easy to kill with gls/flamers if they are too close to each other.

Players, ARCs, MACs, Drifters,... should never affect build limits. CCs, hives, extractors and harvesters should be off the build limit since they are special buildings limited by the map.


Obviously, these build limits would need to be lower than the current build limit - around 12-15 for the same radius.

    Good job on explaining the building count problem. I can see the problem becoming more common as more players join NS2.

    It really is a problem, I've managed to bump into it more than a few times lately. Now that building lots of structures won't plunge the servers quite as much into a slideshow abyss anymore, it's certainly more viable to build up to this troublesome limit.
