The interesting question is, How will welders be implemented? Researched at the robotics factory maybe? Will marines with welders be able to repair structures completely or just their armor? early, mid or late game tech?
If re-implemented, I'm hoping they use the same style as in NS1. In NS1 welders came from the armory; chosen and dropped through the equipment tab by the commander (required armory). Using welders players could weld each-other and or structures. Welders could also be used to weld shut doors/vents.
I say this, agree with me or not: keep current marine welder style.
and implement an armoury buyable "super welder" which takes up a dedicated weapon slot. This is sort of how the gorge is a dedicated builder for the most part.
This "super welder" can weld things heaps faster, and do damage to enemies if they get too close, slowing the enemy down, causing "bleed style" damage of time effects, and generally causing major pain to the aliens... of course, the marine with the welder is still vulnerable considering it's a short range uh... weapon...
ALTERNATIVELY, make the super welder an alt fire to the flamethrower.
anyway. I know it's not all to easy to conceptualise in real life, but this is the future(in ns2) and maybe they have a way of using the same ammunition for both welding and for flaming... or just have the welder flamethrower a separate, upgraded flamethrower with 2 separate fuel supplies.

If you look at the "News" tab, and let the image slide go to "Follow us on Facebook" you'll see a marine holding a welder;)

im pretty sure that a welder cant have an alt fire flamer...
Flamethrower having an alternative weld attack.
to.
Welder having alternative flamethrower attack?
